Ditto. Josh had the chicken crepes with poblano cream sauce last week and they were amazing. He was getting ready to I've me a bite, and prefaced it with "you're gonna want to kiss me after I give you this bite"

Tried to get to Romeo for comparison pizza, but they were closed twice on our attempts and on a long wait the other and we were starving.

We did try Don Sirloin, it was good, but we all prefer El Fogon...can't imagine not having their bean soup. DS frijoles were good, but we thought there was more flavor at EF. Yes, it can be greasy at El Fogon, but maybe since we get it only once a year might have something to do with it. If I ate it regularly then maybe my opinion would change
Trip report? Pictures somewhere?

We love La Cueva for breakfast. It is a must every trip. My wife never stops talking about the oatmeal. And she always says, how can one get exicted about oatmeal.

We will begiong to Don Sirloin in May to try it out.

Have never been to El Fogon and really don't plan to. For our arracherra fix, we always go to the "original" CH Supercarnes on Calle 1 Sur. Just love that place and the wonderfully friendly staff who work there. Yeah, it's a little off the beaten track, but soooo worth it. We love eating where the locals eat.

Took the crew there during Wimmin's Week 2011. Great meal!

We love HC too, and I think the aracherra is more bettah there, but we like the fixings that come with El Fogon arracherra especial plate, like the nopales and bean soup!!

Hope you and David have a fabu time in Playa in May!

We stayed at the Royal and enjoyed just walking Ave.5 until our feet were too tired to continue. Having your food and drinks covered at The Royal kind of preempted us from trying any of the local haunts. Pelicanos had our favorite dinners. Spice for breakfast each day. We hung out by the Tequilaria every evening.
Tips may be included, but be sure to tip the table waitresses and they will make sure your glass is never empty!

Advice for cruising Ave. 5... If you make a purchase, offer the clerk a few pesos to keep it til you are ready to return to your room. Walking around with bags draws attention and the shop keepers will address you as "Hey, Big Spender..." loud and often. We hated that. But there are lots of cool side streets to check out on Ave.5 also.

Hey, Chris (and Josh!) We miss you two too!! We're usually so stuffed on what we eat with the "Nationale" plate at HC, I can't even imagine having sides to ingest too!

We'll raise a glass (or two or four?!) to you guys in May. Sure hope our paths cross once again in Playa one of these years. You guys are so nice and lots of fun to be with!!

We are with you. We were not that impressed with Don Sirloin. Hubby and I prefer El Fogon.

We also love La Cueva Del Chango for breakfast, just love their chilaquiles

And HC is a must for us also.

Gosh I can't wait to get there in May!!!

What place is your MUST hit place on or just off 5th Ave?
CARBONCITOS!!!!!

Carboncitos, Playa del Carmen - Restaurant Reviews - TripAdvisor

The food is awesome and the beer is cold.....We were at the Royal a month ago and ate here twice even with the included food at the resort.

My wife and I were kidding around last weekend and saying that we need to fly back down for some lunch..... we were kidding..... but we both seriously considered it. Possibly for a long weekend sometime soon.....

I agree, I LOVE their chilaquiles. But the chicken crepes with poblano cream sauce sounds awesome too so I think I will have to try those next time also.
