Emergency last night while at the softball game. The IPad did not cut it.

I'm giving up on the idea of using the IPad or a tablet for my requirements. The tools just don't exist on either for me to be able to handle all of my different customers. I don't need much in terms of tools.

I will use this small computer for remote access (3G or 4G) to customer sites when I'm out of town, at a party on a weekend, or on vacation.
  • I'm finding I have to have the ability to VPN to two different locations simultaneously. Not just one location. The IPad can handle one VPN at a time.
  • I need to be able to run different VPN softwares, the IPad handles about 3/4 of what I need.

I can deal with everything else with the IPad, but without those two VPN requirements fulfilled, the IPad is basically a toy for me.

I'm going to have to move to something else, maybe a notepad or very small notebook. This computer will have to be able to simultaneously run two separate VM envs as well as its own O/S, where I can have each of those 3 environments connected to 3 separate networks at the same time. The VMs also have to be able to handle all the different VM softwares I'm required to run by my different customers.

Actually he is above the curve! Remember he's not waiting for a phone that is trying to catch up, he's already enjoying 4G.

That is pretty high powered stuff you need there.

Better have your boss get you a MacBook Air, like the one he has

Think I'm going to get a MacBook pro in a month or two. Need to add to our collection of 3 laptops, 1 netbook, 1 desktop, two Ipad 2, and two kindle fires.

The 4G is what sold me on the New iPad. I am moving to Denver in a few months and will be commuting into work everyday on the train. The iPad with 4g will be very nice.

I have the macbook air as well and find that it is great when I need to do more than just surf, email or apps. I tend not to travel with the macbook air as much since it is not as self contained as the iPad. I enjoy having a single device for books, games, music, photos, internet and email.

I look forward to receiving the new iPad on March 16th and breaking it in on my flight down to Cancun the following week for Spring Break in Tankah Bay.

Go thin and light...I love my Toshiba Portege laptop PC...it is like having a tablet hooked into a rather thin keyboard..but with all the muscle of a real PC...
