The review
I guess one of the first things that stands out when you arrive to the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda (BBGE) is that the resorts location (and pretty well all of the other resorts in this area) you are cohabitating with the mangroves and the wildlife that comes with them..... Coati's albeit cute little south of the border varments from a distance, they are not afraid to walk close to you, or wander the corridors no matter what floor your room may be on, in search of food...... the resort has several signs posted throughout the resort to please not feed the wildlife, but many do, and because of this they are a little more domesticated than they should be. Cute tho
![]() Depending on where your building is located will depend on how much you will be walking while here..... me loved the walking and rarely took one of the shuttles that run all day long throughout the resort..... our building was #1 Tulum, close to the beach/pool, close to the buffet turned into steakhouse at night restaurant..... and most importantly a short walk to save your pool chairs, catch some beautiful sunrises, have a cup of coffee and prepare for another day.... BBGE marks the walkways almost enough where you will most likely still get lost in the paths until you have your bearings here..... they could use a few more wayfinders because we noticed that we were not the only ones, but once you are able to find your way to the lobby area of the resort there are more restaurants, small shops, a sports bar which by all of the negative comments that I had read on some travel sites were really not true, not a true sports bar, but just fine to have coffee in the morning, and a cervesa in the afternoon... The beach here was built once again within a mangrove forest, nuff said, if you walked to the left or the right there seemed to be perfectly good swimming conditions, and the reviews are right, you definately need to walk to the left of the resort to check out the lagoon where 3 fresh water rivers are joined with the ocean....... pretty About the only truly negative comment that I can come up with is that with the area there is a mosquito problem which seems to only occur when the room is being cleaned..... we brought some bug spray and/or would chase them down until they gone, but again it only seemed to be a problem at the room, didn't get any bites when walking around at night. Like I said in my pre-fly posts being from the rust belt I will never have anything negative to say about my holidays...... yes it could have been alot nicer but the BBGE is a very nice resort, and the people there work their asses off to make your stay an enjoyable, memorable one. The food is above average good compared to anything that I can get where I live, and the variety of alacarte and buffets offerings should make any belly happy to be there. Do I miss it? YES!!! Would I go back? In a heartbeat!!! Last edited by Detroit_Mexico; 03-31-2012 at 08:13 PM.. |
