My 2 pesos: I thought all this moving around would be labor intensive, something I usually avoid, but it was surprisingly easy. As long as I get my early coffee nothing seems like "too much" . I felt the boats and "rustic dock" have really taken over the area of beach we usually enjoy so much as that part of town is where we like to stay. This year we walked more and more in the north end and tried the restaurants on 30th. more. I particularly enjoyed Brent Parkin whenever we came across him, and meeting more PAR folks. Only ran into Heather once, but enjoyed our visit. Xpu Ha was like finding paradise.I spent a lot of time in the water. We loved Akumel. Staying at Hotel Akumel Caribe was like the old days at our beloved Blue Beach. I can't even look at the Taj. It was "all good" except for my water retaining feet and I can't wait for next time ! Nice report, thanks!
![]() Love the location of the Plantation House. ![]() most important question for me- was it quiet at night for sleeping? I like to get my fish pedis at Cenote Azul instead. ![]() This is a small world...see the grey haired dude on the right side? ![]() That is our friend Paul from Alberta. He and his wife Cindy (not the woman in the pic, his wife is a tall slim brunette with long hair) spend winters in PDC. We met them in Manzanillo years ago and still stay in touch. Too funny to see him in your trip report! see, I am sure it is him! This pic is from about a decade ago...

Hi Maggie,we stayed in a back unit at the Plantation House, our front windows looked out on the garden, the others toward the water . I never heard a thing. We also spent time at Yebo steetside, I never heard anything there either. The Plantation House was really neat.We loved it. Too funny about your friend
We met very nice people from all over Canada each place we stayed and enjoyed them all. Each time Leeds and I return we say "Best trip ever ". I guess we really love it. The reason we moved around a lot is availability . Some of our favorites were already booked. The Vancouver people streetside at Plantation thought it was noisy.

Hmmm, I would have thought 1st would be fairly quiet.... I have stayed at Royal Palms though, on Fifth and Calle 26, and had a hard time sleeping at night (also a streetside room-noise from Fe bar across street). But the units with bedrooms facing into the courtyard were much better....I will stick to those. Glad you had a good trip, it sure looks like it was fun!

Finally had a chance to look at your report, Leeds- great job and nice pics! Glad that you and Charlotte had a good trip.
Our friends Harris (Tallyho) and Paul have stayed at Plantation House for the past few years and love it. They've stayed in both penthouse suites (lots of stairs!) and on the second floor- all away from the street. Nice place, in a great, central location. |

Pictures of Anne's past trips when she would visit Harris at Plantation house inspired us to book there. But nothing will beat the Hotel Akumal Caribe for walking out of our room onto the sand as we are real beach people.

Delightful pics!!! The ones of Akumal make me even more psyched for our stay at the Cannon House in just a couple more weeks! The HAC is perfect for walking out your door and being right ON the beach (stayed there in 2010), but we've now fallen madly in love with the Cannon House's "isolation". Can't wait to see the tortugas again!

Plantation House
What can I tell you about Plantation House? Joe and Françoise are great hosts, there is a very small pool in the court yard but was fine for us, the location is fantastic, mostly quiet at night when the club district is just a block or so away. The penthouse St. Lucia is our favorite, but may try out the new penthouse that was Joe and Françoise's apartment, it is much larger, and on the street side of the complex.
Let me know if you have any other questions, and feel free to pm me! Harris And yes we are going to book there again this year! |

Here is a link to my trip report from July of 2010. I described the Plantation House in some detail. Sorry about the pics, I accidentally deleted them from Photobucket. http://www.playa.info/playa-del-carm...ly-2010-a.html |
