Playa to Akumal?

Hello everyone,
I'm hoping to get some advice on the best way to get from Playa to the Akumal Dive Shop. I'm actually staying at the Valentin Imperial Maya but will be taking a shuttle to Playa del Carmen then hoping to go to Akumal from there. Does anyone know how far it is? Thank you for any information.

My friend that used to work there when she lived in Playa would take a colectivo.

We usually collectivo down to Akumal, then negotiate a taxi rate back.

I want his budget if he thinks that is cheap. For what it would cost round trip, you could rent a car for the day.

We've taken the colectivo from Playa to Akumal and got a taxi from the drop off to the dive shop. Cheap and easy!

Thank you for the information. Do I need to look for a specific collectivo? I'll probably take a shuttle to Playa from the Valentin. sorry this is my first time going off on my own - we usually book excursions with the resort

easy peeps......pretty sure the OP asked for any information on the best way to get from PDC to Akumal...in my opinion that is the best way......cheap fare...no driving...no walking...no catching a cab from where the collectivo drops you off...no bus to wait for......sonofdob

ya...but...when you approach a taxi and ask the fare and he says 285 pesos and you counter with 200 pesos or you will take the bus you'd be surprised how often they (or the next taxi) will accept.........

same response...it's not necessarily going to be the posted rate...

agreed everyone has their own budget......mine allows me to split a $16 CDN taxi fare four ways...c'mon...it's $4 Canadian dollars......for a nice ride to Akumal...plus...no rental car hassles......

There is a difference between paying that price regularly if you are living there long term or on a vacation.....Mexico taxi prices on a vacation budget seem pretty cheap to me!

But- my vacation budget is a lot higher than my day-to-day living budget.

I hardly ever take taxis here at home (but they are WAY more expensive than in Mexico when I do. )

ETA: You can also negotiate with a taxi that is heading back to Playa empty quite easily, we have gotten rides from Akumal back to Playa for about 150 pesos before.

Collectivo Tino. But know that you will have a about 1/2 mile walk from the highway (307) to da beach. No that bad of a walk (paved, mostly shaded) but still a walk. Popular collectivo stop, so no worries getting back to Playa.

Tinytails - if you do take the colectivo, you'll have to cross the highway to get to Akumal.

This bridge is for that fyi
