Family trip to Playa Maya - coba or tulum??
Thanks to all the helpful information on this site we have made reservations for July at Playa Maya!!
After reading lots of information.. Can anyone help me decide which would be better with our 2 children who are 5 & 8 Coba or Tulum?? ( hopefully Anna will be running one of her tours!) Definitely want to see one of the above. Also want to try Aktun Chen - sounds cool, Xcaret .. and snorkeling at YalKu- thanks so much!! Michelle |

Michelle-
Good question! We took our 7-year old last Spring to Coba, which I think is a fantastic place. Coba is much larger than Tulum, plus you'd be in the jungle, so it has an "Indiana Jones" feel that may appeal to you and your children. The architecture at Coba is superior, and our son really liked the mystery. Meanwhile, I think Tulum is "pretty" next to the ocean, but the architecture is not as thrilling. Note summertime could be hot in both places, for different reasons. Tulum lacks shade...while Coba could be rather humid. In either location, would advise you to get started EARLY in the day (as I imagine Anna and others will tell you). Hitting a beach on the way "home" to PDC will be nice!! Also: At Coba, there'd be more walking, but note you should be able to hire a bike (cyclo?) rider to peddle you from place to place... I think your youngest would appreciate the bike! Finally, Coba is of course a bit farther away. Bottom line for me: I've been to Coba three times, while once at Tulum was good but enough for me. I'm sure you'll get other useful comments to help you decide! |
