Akumal Night Snorkeling

The Akumal Dive shop is offering a night snorkeling tour that talks about seeing the Bioluminescent Plankton that is in the bay. Has anyone done this? I've read about it in Puerto Rico before but I was not aware it was in the Playa / Akumal region as well.

I have done night dives in Cozumel and it is awesome! Our dive group got into a circle and turned off our lights. Wave your arm and it is like a magic wand with a trail of lights. Worth doing.

When we stayed at the Barcelo in February we noticed the waves appeared to be lighting up as they hit the reef while we were walking the beach one night.....we watched for a while and finally realized what we first assumed to be bioluminiscense was actually just dive lights from a group of divers out at the reef. But that is cool, I would do that in a heartbeat!

Heard about the Bio Plankton on the out islands of Puerto Rico. But haven't heard of them in the Riviera Maya section of Mexico. Did Night Snorkel off of Barcelo Maya and it was amazing but no BP.

You have to turn off your lights & really move your arms around a lot to see it. I've seen it in Cozumel & Playa but it's not evident unless you really move your arms around. I have heard of the bioluminescent lakes/waters in & around P.R. and that's supposed to be spectacular.

We used to get it every summer in Long Island Sound growing up, it was totally wild. Shrooms made the experience even better

Hey PB... stop by with your shrooms some evening when we're in Akumal in a few weeks and maybe I'll consider an evening snorkel. You know where to find me!
