Question how to find offers for a trip to California

HELP
we live in Playa and we had been 2010 in Vegas
For this year we are looking for a not expencive way to travel again to the USA

We have a few ideas
my dream would be to see San Francisco for some days
than rent a car and drive the coast to LA
and if it is possible again with a rent a car
to Las Vegas
or the other way around

if this will be to expencive
it would be also great to just fly to visit LA

or just fly to San Francisco

all trips should start and end in Cancun
June would be good and the days of our vacation depending on the price

Can anybody help PLEASE

thanks so much

Susie

susie, keep your eye on virgin america flights direct to LAX and SFO from CUN
all new planes and great service
rent a car in advance from hotwire.com and it is very cheap, i have had great luck with them and cars for less than 15 dollars a day

So are you not planning on doing a round trip to one airport? If not, one way tickets flying to one airport and flying home from another back to Cancun can cost a bit more..Also..if you rent a car in one city and drop it off in another is okay but there will be a drop-off fee. We rented a car in Palermo Sicily and dropped it off in Catania to fly back to Rome..I can't remember the price of the frop-off but it was between 50 and 100 Dollars.

You might check some of the local airlines in Los Angeles that fly to Vegas. I would probably Fly to san Francisco..rent a car..drive to LA, then drive to Vegas and drop the car there for a small fee rather than pay for another Airline ticket...Then Fly back to Cancun from Vegas.
also look at flights in the reverse order..Fly to Vegas, rent a car, and drive to LA and San Franciso. You might find better deals.

Expedia, travelocity, and Orbitz offer Air and Car rental deal packages.

I'd suggest flying into SF via Virgin or another airline that matches fare, drive down the coast, fly via Southwest Airlines into Las Vegas, same again back to SF and return back to Cancun. R/T Virgin...sale flights via SW. I've used SW flying from Bay Area to LA and it is fine. Quick flight. If you have unlimited vacation time.....drive from LA to Vegas. Driving from Vegas to SF will be a looooooong one.

You can fly into LA and drive up coast to SF, fly to Vegas, drive to LA and fly back to Cancun. That is another option.

I wouldn't pass up a drive down the coast no matter how cheap airfare is from LA/SF SF/LA. Not if you want to get the feel of California coast.

One more thing. If you decide to drive the coast, it might be a good idea to stay overnight. Not an easy drive.

Sorry. IF you don't want to take the coast all the way, you also have the option to go inland and take 99 and do some switch backs. I miss Carmel.

Fly into SF or Oakland. If you are just interested in seeing the most beautiful parts of the CA. coast go north and through the Napa valley. I would not go much more south than Big Sur. If Vegas is a must book a round trip out of SF or Oakland..or even San Jose with a hotel package included.

You are?! Fantastic! Did you go to Sam's Anchor Cafe? I'd kill for a bucket of clams on that deck right now! Love love love Tiburon. Favorite time to go is Fleet Week.

Have a great weekend!

I lived in Sacramento California for quite a number of years. Also went to college in Santa Barbara. In my experience, I'd suggest going to San Francisco and/or driving Highway 1 between San Francisco and Los Angeles in late September or very early October. The weather at that time is about the best that you'll find during the year, with less chances of dense fog along the coast.

We did this trip a couple of years ago. We flew to Chicago, then took the California Zephyr Amtrak train from there to San Francisco. After a couple of days in San Francisco, enjoying glorious WARM & sunny weather, we took 5 days to drive the coast highway to Los Angeles. We stopped in Santa Cruz, Carmel by the Sea, San Simeon, and Santa Barbara.

We rented a mini-van one way and the drop off chanrge wasn't too bad. I booked the van almost a year in advance and so got VERY good rates!

You can see slideshows of that trip by going to our website ~ the address is in my signature.
