OK, so obviously there's lots of nudity and lots of sex, and not just in the bedrroms. My point is that if the complaints are based on the simple fact that these things are happening on the resort grounds, then I have to say I would disagree with an effort to prevent the resort from opening (or get it shut down, if its already open). However, if such activities are occuring on the public beach or in full view of the public beach, then I agree with efforts to have the resort comply with local laws regarding such shenanigans.

I don't begrudge Bob and Mary from Tulsa getting their freak on with Alice and Ted from Dubuque, but I certainly don't want to have to watch!

I have an aunt and uncle Bob and Carol....I SO don't want to think about that!

No TR from me, Ranger, I am far too 'prudish' to ever go to a lifestyling resort.

I think it is the proximity to town and the fact that the hotel is so close to PM and the grounds are so close to the beach where lots of people pass by that is the big deal, really....no one would care about a bunch of swingers getting their groove on if the resort was secluded and it was more discreet, they just don't want to have to see it.

I could see where some locals or expats may find it offensive and not want it in their town. A few years ago a nudist campground in this area got shut down (illegal activitys)

This is what happened: This hotel was previously the boutique not all inclusive hotel Ceiba del Mar, it had excellent reviews but very expensive rates. I always wondered how they survived with so little clientele. I've been going to this area for the last 6 years, mainly to Paradisus AI hotel that was sold few years ago to the Now chain and now is called Now Sapphire and as well to the H10 Tuequesa AI hotel, with my wife and 2 kids. All these hotels along the beach with Ceiba del mar or what is now Desire Hotel advertise that Puerto Morelos is 15-20 minutes walk. Even the rental villas along the beach, their clients walk regularly to Puerto Morelos just in front of Desire. This is what happened to us yesterday Dec. 22: we decided the 4 of us to have a walk from Now Sapphire to Puerto Morelos, My wife and I and our 2 kids 11yo and 7 yo, as we approached the hotel, we noticed something different. Many of the rental villas just before Desire are empty and for sale including a villa that we rented in 2008 and at that time we were interested in purchasing it but the owners refused to sell. So what's happening?? Our aswer came up after a 5 minutes walk. Without warning or any sign whatsoever we were face to face with a completely naked couple walking on the beach. The kids looked at us with big eyes!! We kept on walking and we were amazed at the sight ahead, couples and singles completely naked tanning few meters from the edge of the water, some with wide open legs and others touching each others.. We made sure the kids were occupied with other things but it was too late for that , we spent the next 20 minutes answering their questions about what they saw. Guys, you have to understand that in all inclusive hotels in Playa del Carmen or Puerto Morelos, you will never ever see a topless client or drunk people on the beach. I'm sure it will happen occasionally but not in this area and furthermore, many locals and tourists alike walk along this beach towards Puerto Morelos. we were not the only ones. At night, when we were back at our hotel, we heard other tourists talking about it with disgust. This is not a secluded area and the nudity is very visible and I assure you, NOT very attractive. Only big people (no offense) to any one and older crowds. There were a few 35 yo ladies with silicone breasts but nothing to see or want to see. I have nothing against nudity as long as it's contained within the resort but this is in plain sight and locals are powerless. If we, as tourists are blogging about it it's because we have access to the internet but these locals have no access or a say in the matter. So yes, it will hurt tourism in the area: the villas can not rent their space to families and the AI hotels will be careful advertising the beautiful walk to Puerto Morelos.. All this is new but I'm sure that it will not last for a long time, there is noise already and when the owners of the big resorts not far from Desire start the pressure on the city of Puerto Morelos, they will have to do something about it. After digging a little I found a thread about this matter and the owners of the Desire chain, promised back in May, to install some kind of a screen between the beach and the hotel and that they would do this in a matter of weeks but obviously nothing has been done yet.

I was hoping allanwt could help with a positive identification of Carol as she trots by (it's hard to get more than a fleeting glimpse as she spins past), but it sounds like he had his hands full fielding a number of novel questions from his understandably somewhat startled family (sounds like he handled it well, by the way - or at least as well as could be expected under the circumstances, since it sounds like one of those things you've probably never really quite prepared for in advance - reminds me of the scene in "A Fish Called Wanda" where John Cleese is surprised in full frontal flagrante by the owner of the apartment, along with his wife and two young daughters, whose eyes express a veritable wealth of interesting questions for ole Mum and Dad).

Anyway, thanks for the alert allanwt - sounds like you survived, dazed but relatively intact - but it also sounds like a bit too much for strolling families on a public beach.

Yeah- I have no problem with the concept or resort, in general, but it really needs to be in a private location. That's just not fair to unsuspecting people- kids, adults, anyone.
