New 'Desire' Hotel Not Welcome in Puerto Morelos

Mexican tourist town says new swingers resort could hurt tourism | Fox News

What do you think, good for PM or would you side with the locals who are against it?

Lots of buzz on TA about this- the general consensus not being positive.

Roni you don't have to answer, we can guess.

I would side with the locals

I am not opposed to clothing optional resorts

I am not opposed to people in the "lifestyle", having private places where they can behave in anyway they care too, but

I would side with the locals here.

Many parts of Mexico are still very conservative. It sounds like from the link that the beach is public/visible? If so, then I can understand the local's concerns.

I saw someone post something on FB about this. The resort has promised to have palapas and access to the beach for locals. However he has asked locals not to bring cameras.

Oh and it sounds as if it hasn't been Mexican nationals complaining but ex-pats that are concerned about their quiet lifestyle there.

Well Delmy knows Wilmo Zetina, a long-time friend of the family, and the first person quoted in that Fox piece...

So what are the locals worried about, exactly? Scantily-clad tourists on the beach?

Or is there a legit reason to be concerned that there will be daily orgies occurring in plain sight? Isn't this a self-contained A/I?

Well that article lists some: that their presence will scare off the (alleged) current surge in more spiritual travelers; that the people going there won't patronize local services and businesses (such as snorkeling tours); that something inappropriate might be seen...

Ummm, is this a new hotel? I thought this place had been there for years......

Just wondered why all the fuss now?

Can't the same be said about any new A/I?

I will need to do some more research in order to make an informed decision.

Article mentions that this is a new, second location right near the main section of town, whereas the one that's been there for a while is in a more secluded location a few miles away.

Well this is described as a clothing-optional place for swingers, so I guess not.

I'll admit that I don't know much about this particular chain, but unless they encourage orgies on the beach, I'm honestly not sure what the concern is versus other A/Is. Don't people lay out topless, drink to excess, get rowdy and risqué at other resorts? Mostly Canadians, or at least so I'm told.

It was only recently taken over by Desire.

Desire is not just a CO/clothing optional resort chain- it is a 'lifestyle' chain, and it is marketed that way- think Hedonism II types of activities.

Me too.

The main complaints I have read on TA were locals complaining how close it is to town and how the grounds are easily visible from passersby on the beach.
