We wrapped up our details last week and booked flights. Feb 23- March 2 at El Faro again (3rd year in a row). The same seven who went last year plus one extra.

Hopefully I'll run into some of you this year...as I read sonofdob's TR after we got home and we were at the same places a few nights.

El Faro is a great place to stay. Patrica at the deck bar makes a great margarita.

Yeah we like staying there. The bar was a nice addition in Feb from our first trip in 2011 when they didn't have it. It just seemed pretty dead in late February when we were there.

We stayed at El Faro once, and LOVED it! We looked into it for this trip, but only a two bedroom was available (aren't they all owned condos?.
Price was pretty steep too. $1800 per person for a week!! And not AI.
But we're staying at the Illusion, which isn't that far from Wicky's!

$3600 is crazy...I don't think there is anything remotely that price on vrbo for El Faro for a 2 BR in early Feb 2013.

We rented 2 BR condos in our past two trips...for Feb we are renting a 2 BR and a 3 BR for 8 of us (3 couples and 2 singles).

Gosh, how much time do you really spend in your room in Mexico anyway. I like to rent a cheaper place (that’s clean and up to my living standards of course) so I can spend more money indulging on their delicious food and yummy tequilla

I agree with Mouse last time I was there I got an apartment on 5th and the street that goes down to the Blue Parrot for $350 a week. It was nice clean and quiet,

Well for one I would never spend that much.

When you go with a group (8 people in our case) and fill up the rooms in the condos (we all have our own ensuite bathrooms) and split it, it is less expensive than staying at hotels nearby like Playa Maya, Playa Palms, etc. MUCH cheaper in cases of getting kitchenettes at those hotels...and we have a lot more space, full kitchens for those who want to eat some breakfasts in, gas grills on the balcony, etc.

Of course, you need to find the right mix of people to share condos with...which we are lucky to have.

So when the cost is divided, it is a cheap vacation and we indulge on the yummy food and margs too.

I agree. $1800 split between two couples is only $900 a week for a great condo right on the beach in a great location. Of course the key is having another couple you can spend that much time with. (Miss you Donny and Randa)
