Grand riviera princess platinum upgrade??
Hi all
My wife and I have booked to return to the GRP the first 2 weeks in June. We previously stayed there 2 years ago and recieved a free upgrade to a delux suite. (because it was our first wedding anniversary, it's our 3rd during this trip) Since we booked this trip we have found out that my wife is pregnant with our first child. So in my thinking this will probably be our last proper holiday together alone for the next few years. I was thinking about pushing the boat out and upgrading to a platinum room for our stay of 14 nights. Does anybody have an idea of what this will cost me to do when we arrive? Are the prices negotiable? I tried to call the travel agent here in the uk but they couldn't advise me and said best to do it once I arrive there. The resort is pretty big--but the walking in my opinion feels really good and the grounds are pretty enough that it does not seem like a chore. even at a slower amble I can't imagine it taking more that 10 minutes to walk from the beach to the main lobby area.
My friends had swim up rooms on the Sunset side right next to the breakfast/lunch buffet restaruant that turns into the fondue restaurant at night and that worked out great. They ate breakfast and lunch there, put them between the main pool and another swim up pool and we got great wait service to the swim up area from that pool bar. We had a couple that joined us at our swim up area several of the days that were Platinum and they would have rather had the swim up rooms. They did not need their private areas--the place is so huge that you really do not feel crowded ever. They never used the room service, or little private ffod area. |

Oh yeah--there was a couple from Canada that had a swim up room in my friends area and they were there two weeks. They said they would have not booked anything different. They had privacy because others really did not use the area much, but when people did it gave them folks to mingle with. They felt it was romantic when they wanted it to be and if they wanted more interaction it was so short to the other pools.
I normally do not upgrade my room ever becuase I am rarely in my room. If I get the chance to go back, I would do swim up at this particular resort because of how it is set up. |

Your best bet is to just ask if there is availability to upgrade to the Platinum upon arrival. There are fewer Platinum rooms compared to the Junior Deluxe/Suites, but there may be some as it is not considered peak season. Just based on comparing the two room choices on line here in Canada, the Platinum Room would probably be an additional $150-200 ($ Canadian) compared to a Deluxe Junior Suite.
I understand that the majority of their rooms are Deluxe Junior Suites, and that they are ideally located right in the middle of the resort. On our last trip, the walking seemed relatively easy as you were half way to the beach, or half way to the lobby, and directly in front of the main pools. Seriously... the walking is not an issue. |
