Returning to US after FMM expiration date

Hi everyone I have never been in this situation before and it may look like I won't be retuning to the states before my FMM expires. I know a trip down to Belize would be on the easy side of renewing the FMM, but in my case it won't be possible.

What happends when I do return back to the states after it expires? Do I just pay a fee and thats it? Will there be something on my record? Can I say I just lost my FMM paper? Is there something in the system that they will be able to pull up and know what date I came?

looking forward to hearing your tips.

What is this form used for? Any fees for filing? What is the procedure like?

You want to extend your FMM, right?
That's what it's for.
Procedure? You take it to the office and wait. :-)

If you don't do that...

"The cost to return home with an expired FMM is about $200USD and takes time= delays ($$$ always subject to change?). Missing your flight due to delays in processing a lost or expired FMM: distressing & expensive."

Thank you... anyone else care to chime in regarding this process? Has anyone been through this before? How long does it take to get it renewed?

I've head from others that have been through it that you will likely have to pay a fine. It all depends on who you deal with and what kind of a mood they are in at the time. After all, TIM.

There is no fine if you renew before the original has expired.
As I posted, there is a us$200 fee if the original has expired.

Taco...depending on the crowd at immigration, you should be able to do it in a morning. Go in the morning. They close the doors early.

And I wouldn't worry about the process. It's something you need to do.
When you do it, you can share the experience.

FYI Taco:They open at 9. I usually get there at 8:15 to 8:20 and am usually one of the first ones there. You wait for 40 minutes or so and they open at 9 sharp. If you come at 9.......the line will scare you. Or go after 10 and usually the initial "early morning" rush has cleared but the waiting room seats will be half full or maybe fully packed with people waiting to get their "business" done.
I think that the Immigration office closes at 2pm.

Hi all, I wanted to update you to let you know that you can not extend your FMM. They extension is only for people who have other FM's such as FM2 and FM3's.
