where is the Chac Mool cenote?

Does anyone know how to get there? I live in Puerto Aventuras and I still can't find it, although it is supposed to be "right there" as I don't often travel to the other side of the federal highway (where I suspect the cenote is).

This cenote made the headlines recently when a diving instructor and his two clients died there. They failed to surface. Since then, I've googled for pictures and it is really awesome but no one really says EXACTLY where it is.

So, if you can tell me what little street to wander down, what building on the street to look for, or anything that may be helpful to find this cenote (helpful is the key word here ), that would be great.

I have, however, found the 1500 year old Mayan lighthouse on the bank of Puerto's little inlet or bay, hidden in the mangrove jungle. It's a great place to walk to and enjoy the turquoise water and peacefulness of the setting.

Our Mayan wonderlnd here in the Riviera is such a treasure. It's up to all of us to learn as much as we can to enjoy it fully.

Hm, I can't really tell you but as far as I remember it is on the highway to Tulum. And there should be signs to it since it is very well known. I have been diving in it and I have heard about that accident.

Not sure this link helps but it should be close to where you live

Just south of the end of the Puerto Aventuras overpass, you'll see this. And this is the entrance to Chac Mool.

Thumbs up

Thanks Babaloo! This building in the picture, is it close enough to the highway to see? Or is it some distance from the road? Sounds like we should be able to see it from the highway. Next trip back, we'll expore!

The gray in the foreground of the photo is the highway :-)

The circle is the entrance that you see in the previous photo
