Yan and Tens is on my list as well. I was going through threads and I am after fish/shrimp tacos. The grouper is amazing...where I live the common fish is tilapia

The shrimp tacos there are awesome! We had them grilled. Yan and Ten is the beach club for Las Brisas.
Carboncitos is a great place for food, beers and 2 x 1 margs and tacos al pastor from 3-6 everyday
Second the push cart tacos on 5th and Juarez.
We also love La Famigilia on 10th and 10th for awesome pizza and fresh pastas

To all the playa experts who replied they don't eat on 5th, whats wrong with ComoComo, Pachamama, Luna Maya, Piola, Da Gigi, Cava Viente33, or Baremar?? I realize you all want to sound like the "cool kid on the block who wouldn't think of eating on 5th" but from what I've read from regulars on here, these are all great restaurants on 5th....

I don't think we are acting like the "cool kid on the block" but more budget type. 5th has some great places to eat, just more expensive.

Piola is actually off 5th and one of our favorites

Totally agree - we are definitely more the budget type - why pay 5th ave prices when a block or two off you can get the same meal and usually better for less. About the only place on 5th we eat is El Diez - other than that, we like El Fogon, Mannes, Util, Carboncitos, Aquacilies, El Pirata, Ceuvo de Chango to name a few

Love his pork and taco's and chicharone's.

No beer or other alcohol served here, that was my breakfast anyway.........

I do not think it has anything to do with any "cool kid" syndrome.

Our first trip, we rarely strayed more than a block off of 5th. Since then our comfort zone has expanded. It helps that I get along in Spanish pretty well.

It is your vacation, do what you have fun doing. I suggest stretching your comfort zone a little, but, in the end, do what you want to do

WOW.....didn't realize stating my own experiences made me appear "cool". The OP asked about places on or around 5th. Since I rarely eat on 5th (except my addiction to the Pizza Pazza stands) I have no opinion of great places to eat except the one I mentioned. That does not mean there are not great places to eat on 5th.....obviously there are. It is my own choice to venture off for both budget and personal preference. Glad it makes me cool as well.

I eat wherever there is a good restaurant..I am willing to pay more for good food and great atmosphere, but I like the hole- in -the wall discoveries too!...sometimes great atmosphere is a small place off 5th with plastic tables, sometimes it is with beach sand in my toes, and sometimes it is on 5th watching the peeps go by.

Cafe Meditteranea, La Azotea, Yaxche, Como, Como, Aguachiles, La Mission, Oh LaLa, Las Cazuelas, Fusion, Las Brisas, Playa Maya (not dinner), La Tarraya

Most of my meals will be on or around 5th. I am sure my wife and I will be eating at other places as well. Feel free to name some places that are in walking distance from Playa Maya (our hotel)

Many of the same as previous posters, all very near to 5th but not right on it. IMO very good and very reasonable.

La Tarraya, on the beach at the end of 2nd street.
Carboncitos, on 4th street one block off of 5th avenue
Las Cazuelas, not sure of the location, but across the street from Luna Blue, DO NOT MISS! It was a treat!
