Hotels north of Playa del Carmen
Are there any all-inclusive hotels that are north or south of town that are a short cab ride other than the hotels in Playacar?
Thanks for your help. Last edited by DeniseinAZ; 05-09-2012 at 08:54 AM.. Reason: also interested in hotels south of town |

The Grand Coco Bay and the Paradisus La Perla and Esmeralda are north and are really in Playa del Carmen, on the northern edge. Sandos Caracol, Azul Fives, Grand Princess and Secrets Capri are next in line to the north but whether you can consider them a "short" cab ride, it depends on the definition of "short". Nothing is closer to Playa than the resorts in Playacar, and there's really nothing that I would call a short drive away to the south. The closest resort to the south, outside of Playacar, would be the Grand Xcaret.

Thanks Shammy. Have stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal in the past and was just looking for something different. How would you compare the Iberostar to the Grand Coco Bay?

Maybe take a look at Mahekal.
Mahekal Beach Resort Mayan Riviera Hotels In Playa del Carmen They have semi all-inclusive. Breakfast and either lunch or dinner, your choice. Sort of the best of both worlds. Quieter area than the Royal, more laid back atmosphere, less 'party party party'. Beachfront in the farther north end of town. Lovely beach.

For me personally, there isn't much comparison. The Grand Coco is a budget hotel, with an emphasis on budget. I really don't recommend it - not to my clients anyway. While the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal isn't fancy and it's a bit dated, it's a quality resort with good food and decent service.

Yes! And I have always wanted to stay there, too, gorgeous beach, nice part of town. If you stay at Palmar del Sol condos, you get the use of their beach club...also a good idea for anyone who likes condos. |

Mahekal = "Magical"...
As per previous posts..love everything about Mahekal...unassuming but a very special ambience...spartan but exceptionally clean & the most hospitable people ever! "quaisi inclusive" with optional ;ie cost-effective meal plan that allows flexibility to pursue numerous restaurant options in Playa...Amazing beach & immediate access to the wonderful vibe offered by The North End...Apologies in advance re my 1st attempt to post photos?
