Just moved to playa

Hi everyone,

My husband and I have just bought a house, our first house, here in playa. As I've been reading and posting in the forum I thought I'd better introduce myself.

My name is nichola, I am from Scotland and I am a professional dancer and circus artist. My husband Miguel is Mexican. He is also a circus artist, in fact he's a clown.

After traveling and living nearly all our lives in circuses and shows we have decided to settle down in playa. The plan is to keep performing in hotels, events and children's parties.

We decided on playa as we were here with the circus (circus do Portugal, I don't know if any of you saw the show??) and we fell in love.... So here we are! Hoping to make some friends and be a part of the community.

Welcome, Nichola
Understand that many of us are not fans of circuses because of their treatment of animals.
But I will not hold that against you.
Welcome to my town.

I get that a lot!!

I can understand that point of view and on the other hand I could give many reasons as to why animals in the circus are better off/well fed etc. but I never had an animal act and don't particularly like animal acts.

But I do love circus arts and don't want my whole circus community and culture to be rejected because of one small aspect in a vast and rich culture that is the circus world.

Well Nichola, rest assured that not everybody who lives in Playa del Carmen will judge you or make comments based on what you do (or did) for a living...
Welcome to OUR town. Hope to see you around.

Nichola, there is a large community of circus artists right here in Playa. Check out the folks who run Marino Caracol, also 20 Varias and Teatro del Arbol. You can find them all on Facebook and I am sure that the people Parque la Ceiba can put you in touch with them as well. I think there is a clowning workshop going on this month at La Ceiba. I believe that circus arts and acrobatics are also taught at InMotion in the Tendenza building on Ave 10 and calle 14.

I hope this helps!

Just out of curiosity, what is their treatment of animals, as you believe it?

Honestly, Nichola, I don't want to open up a controversial dialogue about this on your introduction thread.
I probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place.
Perhaps in the "off topic" forum this can be brought up.
You'll learn there is a lot of passion on this board (both sides of the issue) and I don't want to ruin this thread.

We've had some testy discussions here just about swimming with dolphins.
You'll appreciate that I've ignored your question

Again...welcome to Playa!

wow Claudia! The photos look great! I would definitely be up for that this year, I will have to let you know nearer the time as with work I am sometimes away on contracts, but I am trying to reduce that at the moment, so provisionally I'll accept your kind invitation.

I love a good debate, and appreciate passion so I guess I might have to start a new thread in the off topic forum!
