Just checked other Consular offices in Cancun & Coz....they too have Monday to Friday hours only.

Below is the office info...as far as I know Samatha Mason is still the US Consular.

Consular Agency Playa Del Carmen("The Palapa," Calle 1 Sur, between Avenida 15 and Avenida 20, Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico).

The U.S. Consular Agency in Playa del Carmen is open for business Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please make an appointment by calling the office phone during normal office hours or send an email to: pdcca.appointments@gmail.com containing information about the service you require, your contact information and a preferred time for your appointment within normal office hours. Emergency cases are accepted as walk-ins.
011-52-984-873-0303 (direct dial from the U.S.)

Well that's absolutely horrible, SO sorry!

This happened to a client of mine, they were not allowed to leave Mexico and had to go to the US Consulate in Cancun to get a replacement passport. It did take a few days, the airline was called and their flight schedule changed (yes they paid change fees and additional airfare ). They had to get a photo and pay a new passport fee. They did make a copy of their passport and had it stashed in their luggage (thank goodness) so it was relatively easy to verify their personal info and issue a new passport so no other ID was necessary for them.

Good luck!

*edit* I believe they went to Cancun because their hotel was closer to Cancun than Playa. But I'm not sure if that was the reason why, or if they HAD to go to Cancun. Also, call your airline so they don't put you down as a no show. If you don't show up for check in, the ticket is suspended and has no value.

Unfortunatly most fall under this............from the Dept. of State website.

Q:Can the U.S. Embassy Issue a Replacement Passport Over a Weekend or Holiday?
a: U.S. passports are not routinely issued by U.S. embassies and consulates abroad on weekends and holidays when the embassy/consulate is closed. All U.S. embassies and consulates have an after hours duty officer available to assist with life or death emergencies of U.S. citizens abroad. Contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate after hours duty officer for assistance if you have an emergency need to travel. Phone numbers for U.S. embassies and consulates are also available in our Country Specific Information and Key Officers handbook.
Duty officers must focus primary attention on life or death emergencies. Depending on the circumstances and conditions in the foreign country, it is very likely that a replacement passport may not be issued until the embassy/consulate reopens for business. At that time the Consular Section will be in a better position to verify your citizenship and identity and clear your name through the Department of State name check system.

You might just get another day in paradise out of this

OMG I am so sorry. I thought losing my purse, drivers license, camera and ATM card sucked. Your bad news is worse, but I'm glad to see things are working out at least a bit better for you now.
