Mike Grabow / CDs

Well, we got home from our 11th time in Playa on 5/3 - had an AWESOME time this year. One of our greatest finds in Playa from 2 years ago during a rare brief evening rain shower was Mike Grabow. Hands down, he has to be the best live performer we've seen down there. Go figure, he was in Colorado last year when we were there (so we found out this year), but he was in full force this year, and a couple of nights he was with his "side project" band "Genius Kong". It was all good! The nights that we saw him were (excuse me if I have memory lapses in dates/times... hey... it WAS Mexico and a few cocktails were consumed):

Friday: Wah Wah's (as Genius Kong) (...and Wah Wah's has good BBQ, btw)
Saturday: 8-11p - Beer Bucket (Met his lovely fiance Laura - they are too cute together, and do duets together too!)
Monday: 7-9p - Fah/Siesta Fiesta - He started out acoustic and was then joined by Genius Kong
Wednesday: 8-11p - Luna Blue

2 years ago when we first saw Mike live he was selling a CD with some of his music on it. We still listen to it repeatedly. The 11 track disc has the following songs: Celebration, I Love The Way You Live, The Brokenhearted, Goodbye To Romance, I Will Love You More, It's You, In The End, Bright Lights, Back To You, Take Me As I Am, I'm Gone.

What I'm looking for is anyone out there that has any of his other CDs that would be willing to trade copies. I asked him if he had any other CDs and he said that he has 2 more out there, one of which he said was so bad that he quit selling it. SO... any other playa.info posters out there that have a copy of one of Mike's other 2 CDs willing to trade copies? (I'll only go with a trade of the first copy of the 2 CDs that I'm missing to avoid a trading frenzy.)

Oh... and if you're either currently in Playa or heading there soon and are planning on taking in one of Mike's acoustic shows, ask him if he's learned "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor yet.

Tuesdays and Thursdays at Luna Blue
And Genius Kong is certainly his calling.

Babaloo,

Pretty sure we saw him on Wednesday at Luna Blue because we flew out of Cancun the next day on Thursday... but hey... if he's playing there on Thursdays, that's great too. Just throwing it out there for anyone else who wants to take in the Grabow Experience.

Yes you did.
He now plays Tuesdays and Thursdays - not Wednesdays.

Alrightiethen.... I guess the changes in Playa are like our Indiana weather... if you don't like it, wait 5 minutes and it will change. LOL ... Cheers to you Sir for keeping the "tour" up to date.

I have a 70 minute drive to work. Somedays, usually on the way home, I just hit repeat on "Where I Wanna Be".

How long has Mike been fronting Genius Kong? We saw him several times earlier this year, and even got to chat with him a bit, and talked to others who knew him well, but I never heard anyone mention Genius Kong.

Saw them Friday, and could only say WOW.

Great fotos, Rick! In that first one, he looks like an early Johnny/Edgar Winter crossed with Gregg Allman.
