If you stay at a resort where that isn't the case, then perhaps you picked the wrong resort. As the saying goes, and it applies here - most of the time, you get what you pay for.

The big question - what does food at an AI have to do with swimming with the dolphins anyway?

Don't you know, those evil fancy prisons SERVE dolphin!

Or maybe that is dolphinfish ....er, nevermind

We have done AI and non AI. Both are great ways to vacation. Both have their pros and cons. And you can get very good food at an AI- I had my best two meals ever in the Mayan Riviera at the French restaurant at the Barcelo Palace this past winter.

The non AI people like to tell themselves they are 'travellers' rather than 'tourists' because they stay at a non AI, that's all. Because, you know, staying in a completely touristy and commercialized resort town in Mexico is so much more of an adventure than staying at an AI resort. Let them have their little illusions.

That is an overly generalized bullshit statement.

Come on, you see that attitude from many 'I only stay non AI' peeps ALL THE TIME. I have even been guilty of being like that myself.

There, I said many. Better?

No. The shoe does not fit at all. I think AIs can be a nice change of pace.
And many are "I only stay non AI" but not for the pretentious bullshit reason you gave.
There, I changed general to pretentious.

I have been around a long time here on PI and TA.

Long enough to have read a truckload of snide comments about 'AI people' from those who fancy they are superior for not ever staying at AI resorts.

Those who stay at AIs know exactly the attitude I mean.

That is all. Like I said, I have done it myself, too. I just think it was wrong, now, to think that way. Unfair, generalizing, as you say.

I know YOU guys have stayed at an AI...and, uh....good for you? This is not about you, though. So I am not sure whose defense you are leaping to by reacting so strongly?

And really, no need to use profanity, there, Babs!

I really wasn't trying to get anyone spun up by making fun of some of the food at Xel-ha but instead trying to add humor to a discussion that can get rather heated. I always am rather amused when I travel or stray ANYWHERE and there is an epic fail in the food catagory.

No problem, talking about the food at Xel Ha wasn't what got the spin going.
