Recycling/upcycling/crafts

Hi one and all,

I have recently moved to Playa and I have a few queries

1. Are there any recycling facilities? What I mean is in the UK in every supermarket car park there are giant bins, one for bottles, one for cans, one for plastic etc. I was just wondering if there is anything similar in Playa?

2. I am a keen 'upcycle-er' that means I take 'rubbish' and turn it into art or something useful like a lamp shade or a waste paper basket. My husband wasn't too keen on using luggage space for what he calls 'rubbish' (but what I call creations waiting to happen!) so unfortunately I had to leave my arts and craft things in the UK. If anyone would like to recycle to following items instead of throwing them in the garbage please think about donating them to me, I will be happy to collect!
The things I tend to use are.....

Magazines
Corks from wine bottles (one project can use up to 100 corks, I just can't drink all that wine in a week!)
Bottle tops (the plastic ones, do you know they take 450 years to biodegrade?)
Natural String
Old paint
Inside of toilet rolls
Any craft things that wouldn't get used otherwise i.e. ribbons, buttons, glue, card, I try not to waste anything!

If you have any of these things that would otherwise end up in a landfill please think about donating them to me, PM me and let me know where I can collet.

Thanks a bunch!

Yes and no. On our street we put all the trash in a big oil drum on the street. Periodically, entrepreneurs stop by and sort through the trash for recyclables. Subsequently a trash truck stops by and empties the remnants (less the recyclables) from the oil drum.

For me at least that is much more civilized. I don't have to sort my smelly trash and take it in my car to a supermarket. And the entrepreneurs get the cash, and not some already rich government hack or his cousin.

Porotito...there was a guy in Puerto Aventuras that actually created his own island from plastic bottles...I think his name was Gary or Jeff..or something..it's been a few years ago. It was really cool, but one of the hurricanes destroyed it.

Anybody heard about him lately?

Hola! Have you had any luck finding a recycling area? I am looking for one myself. I have some plastic cups I would love to recycle!

RICHIE's Spiral Island is currently, and has been for awhile, located in (or more correctly off of) Isla Mujeres. Drive past Rolandi's Hotel if I remember correctly. Been there 2-3 times in the last few years. Once went to a party on Spiral Island (before hurricane) when it was in P.A. The bathroom facilities were interesting to say the least.

To OP: yes there is a recycler in Playa especially for plastics and cardboard, but also other "junk". Operating 24 hours a day. Hasn't anyone noticed that all of the vacant lots no longer have hundreds of plastic bottles/containers. Yes there is a reason. The recycler is located in the HOLE (behind or just west of the Bomberos). He is looking for an investor. You can be his partner for round $50,000 USD.
