Uxmal is amazing. They have a hotel there if you want to spend the night. We did not spend the night. |

We hired a guide thru the Luz en Yucatan hotel. His office was about three blocks away. He was a second generation Mayan guide and was wonderful. He drove us and took us all thru the ruins explaining along the way. He then let us wander on our own for a while. He then took us to a place for dinner and we then came back for the evening show. Great day but one of the best was our drive back to Merida. We started talking about Mayan history and he really opened up to us. Mayans are still considered second class and there is a lot of resentment for that. I will look and see where his place is and post later.
His name was Carlos(like that is any help). Last edited by Skiptown; 05-20-2012 at 05:34 PM.. |

Thank you both of you!
Hireing a guide sounds very good if it's not too expencive. We thought about taking a local bus, but hireing a guide with a car would be greate because of the flexibility. We are not staying at the Luz en Yucatan hotel, but at the Hotel Hacienda Merida. It looks great and have a good score at Trip Advisor, so we wanted to try it out. It just a block away from Luz.

Wear a hat and strong sunscreen, and you may want bug spray. One man on our tour did not wear sunscreen and became ill on the way back. |
