No. Not Texas. It is illegal for first cousins to marry. Isn't it?

Should women over 40 be prevented from having children? Babies born to first cousins carry about the same birth defect risk. Is this more of "poor and uneducated" stigma attached to those marrying first cousin?

Sorry didn't mean to insult all the married cousins out there, it was meant to be a joke, not the start of an argument.

Of course more babies are born to women under 40. Still doesn't answer my question though. Should women over 40 be prevented from having children if research shows there is an increase risk of having a child with Down Syndrome? Obviously, I say no. So why such stigma on "first cousin marriage" if the risk is similar? To me, it is more of that social and moral stigma that is attached to the latter. Funny, didn't people a long time ago marry within families in order to keep the wealth and class status?

Many states and provinces and countries are abolishing that outdated law against not marrying first cousins, these days, as there is no good reason for it since the consanguinity argument turned out to be inaccurately inflating the risks. (I was just reading about that recently when it came up in the gay marriage argument. Believe me, no desire to marry one of MY cousins! )
