Most of those 'ER stories' are just urban legends.
Like the Richard Gere gerbilling one....

Richard Gere and the Gerbil - An Urban Legend

snopes.com: Richard Gere and Gerbil

Many of the stories are started as a form of gay bashing.

But some certainly are true, too.
People are dumb, for the most part.

Urban or Suburban or whatever, but not legends.

The gerbilling and Richard Gere one is for sure.....and I am sure that is NOT a common practice, if it was EVER done.....and knowing human natures, many of the 'my nephew is an ER nurse and he told me" ones are made up....we do love a good story, we humans.

But yes, people do stick things up their butts, sometimes

The only one I know for sure was true was the shot glass inserted into the rear end of a marine by his civilian lover. I was on duty that night and the ER staff thought he should be seen by the senior psych tech on duty.

I told them having a mishap with a same-sex lover was not a psychiatric issue

Not the guy on the sprinkler head; my BF took care of him in the hospital.

I'm an x-ray tech and have seen the abdominal films of someone who "slipped in the shower and fell" on the Ban roll-on. It's a surgical procedure to remove it. Not a common occurance, thankfully.

Yes, they do! I used to work for a colorectal surgeon.

A patient had a vibrator shoved so far up his rectum that he needed surgery to have it removed ... it was there for 3 days ... and it was running ... the batteries just wouldn't die.

I was bummed that I couldn't even take the "resort course" for SCUBA. (I'm a type one) Snorkeling it is then, it's OK, we're doing the whale shark trip

PT yesterday. He had me stretch out my arm and pushed on trigger points on my shoulder blade to wake up nerve endings. It felt like he was holding a lit cigar to my skin. Afterwards I could move my arm/shouler much better. PT works, but it sure hurts.

Ha! And we PAY to spend an hour being inflicted with extreme pain to get a pleasurable end result.

I think there's another name for it too.

Maybe Christian in Shades of Grey was actually a physical therapist.

Didn't see it/read it, or whatever the case may be.
