But, since I'm no longer the feisty whippersnapper I was when I moved here 12 years ago, I now do it a good deal more prudently than I did before. I've tripped and fallen down numerous times on uneven sidewalks, curbs and protruding bricks, tangled with wires, rollerfooted on almonds in the street, slipped on wet tiles and grapes and yogurt and other mush in Walmart and the other supers (as we all have), so I now I watch where I'm going.

I've been mugged three times (twice by the same guy - see Einstein's definition of insanity, below), knocked out once, and run over by a moto while crossing the street under a streetlight at night (no lights on the moto - he thought it saved gas). And I got "tourista" more times than I wanted (it's about as much fun as being seasick - first you're afraid you're gonna die, then you're afraid you won't). I also brushed my teeth with tap water for several months (I knew better, but oh so convenient!) before I finally puzzled it out.

Could it be the water? Let's see: E coli replicates about every 20 minutes, so if you swallow 1 bug in that "teeny tiny amount", you've got 2 after the first 20 minutes, then 4 after 40, then 16 after 1 hour, then 256 after an hour and 20 min, then - and here's where it gets interesting - 65,556 after an hour and 40 minutes, then 43 million after 2 hours, and so on, so during the 6-8 hours grace period before the average time of onset of the first real undeniable signs of a queasy stomach, you've got a whopping load of bugs you could get along quite nicely without (thanks anyway). So, a self-awarded "duh" to my own self.

Ever mindful of Einstein's definition of insanity ("doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result"), and relying on the benefits of my expensive education ("if you don't know the answer, look it up"), I stopped brushing with tap water and started chanting my protective mantra ("if you wouldn't drink it, why put it in your mouth?"). Probably has a much better risk/benefit ratio than doing the same dumb thing over and over. And it's cheap - bottled water costs me 20 pesos for 20 liters, which at today's rate of exchange is about $1.50 USD for 5 gallons, so it costs me about a penny a brush (including the obligatory gargle and mustache rinse afterwards) - so, it's economical. Seems to work - no deli (or Delhi) belly for 11 years.

RE: the great picture, he's pretty obviously not doing it right - and although I don't know anything about his geopolitical orientation, judging by the water level (and other factors) it doesn't look like a flood control project in a certain country in coastal Europe (it's opposite the country with the famous white cliffs). Also, she's just too picture perfect to be "real", and considerably smaller than he is (he's on his knees), so...I'm guessing maybe an air leak? Who knows? (Is this part of the Bonus Round? I think Shivor gets to write the questions, since he was quick to identify the game.) Viva agua de Provecho! (or something)
This sir is a first rate collection of words. I was OK with everything but having little nasties replicating in my mouth.

Thanks to all the sharp-eyed devils out there who noticed (but were nice enough not to ding me for it) that I wrongly gave Mr. E. Coli the powers of geometric rather than arithmetic progression, incorrectly classifying Mr. coli as a hyperprolific variant of the currently popular "superbug" (and causing Love2Dance's head to hurt). My apologies all around.

The correct number of little Mr. E. colis running around after swallowing the original single "starter" bug should be only about 17 million (16,777,216), and not the "whopping" quadzillion or so erroneously posted. Feel better now? This accounts for swallowing only the one starter bug, of course, but not for the nice colony of coli-cousins happily replicating away like rabbits (or whatever) on your toothbrush, which you no doubt thoroughly rinsed with tap water too.

I attribute my error to my eighth grade math class, where my attention again wandered towards the selfsame "June" who was busy busting out all over in my science class in a previous post. Loose lips sink ships, and whatever, but it beats hell out of arithmetic progression (or just about anything else in the eighth grade, for that matter).

Also, thanks for not dinging me for saying "obligatory gargle after brushing". Nobody gargles after brushing. I meant to say "obligatory mouth and mustache rinse", which evenly distributes the little critters in said tap water all over as part of Mother Nature's Equal Natural Selection Opportunity health plan.

The place with the HUGE selection, Artesians Il Chanto, is located on the highway just south of calle 34 not Juarez. Probably 10,000 to 20,000 ceramic items on site for sale.

The place just south of Juarez on the highway (actually at calle 1 Sur) has a small collection of MX pottery and ceramics .

Speaking of third period, my husband is over the moon that the Buffalo Sabres traded Roy for Ott and Pardy. Whoever (whomever) the hell they are. Does hockey season really ever end?
Methinks a good authentic Mexican pottery piece cracked over the skull should stop this insanity.

Tell your husband to just become an Edmonton Oilers fan and get it over with.
