authentic mexican pottery
Yes, and time to take out the wholly water team and play the special teams, so I'm headed for the shower (no singing there).
Hope Ana finds her pots - I think she's looking for artisanal pots and potters instead of run-of-the-mill commercial ware. There must be an Arts & Crafts Council or Association here that could steer her towards more original ceramics - but until you find it, try the small D'Garheti Gallery on Fifth, about mid-block between Calles 6 and 8, east (beach) side of the street (www.d'garheti.com). They had a lecture and workshop series on Mexican Folk and Artisanal Arts & Crafts about 4-5 months ago (not specifically ceramics, but they might know that branch of arts & crafts too and maybe recommend some local potters to contact- sounded very interesting (but I didn't make it, so it's only anecdotal info). Nothing like Acoma or the New Mexico Pueblos, though - got to go to Santa Fe, and now Flagstaff, for the really good ceramics, although there is a growing and moderately well-regarded ceramics center in northern Mexico across and down from New Mexico (sorry, forgot the name of the state, area, and ware). Suerte! |

I can pronounce Al's "damn" - no problem. And I can pronounce "whom" - no problem there too. But I can't seem to get "NorthernMN" to come out right (actually, I can't get it to come out at all - it gets stuck somewhere around the "nMN" part). ...Just saying (sort of), for all you lingymnists out there.

Beam-eye,
I hope Ana finds her pots...and the authentic ones for sure! I'm geting a kick out of your observations of this thread! and.so...since you brought up authentic...great segway!....She will likely find replicas of the authentic she was seeking at these shops by the highway. They have some, but it is a small selection kept close to the cash register. Maureen |

Anyway, it's time to get them out of the little girls' room (Wash hands first! Don't drink the water! Don't brush your teeth with it [this warning may be unavailable in your location]! Don't sing in the shower! etc., as your mother told you long ago - she was right), and get them out there onto the field to finish the game, if it's still on, for those of us who are wore plumb out by it. (My head hurts, too. Where can I get one of those machines like Luv2Dance wears, for when my head hurts?) I agree with Maureen, all three times - 1) Minnesota folks are good folks, 2) Pronunciation is not all that!, and, 3) may Ana find her authentic pots. Linguistically speaking (is there any other way?), I suspect that "NorthernMN" may one of those "bachelor Norwegian Farmers'" words whose pronunciation on Prairie Home Companion I could never quite make out - but I did notice that it lends itself quite well to the mumblegrowling sound Garrison Keilor makes when he's quoting them (or is that Guy Noir speaking French?), and I can almost pronounce it if I mumblegrowl too. Anyway, MNs have got my vote, whoever they are, starting with Bud Wilkinson, lil Bobby Zimmerman, Garrison Keillor, Lucas Davenport and "That F**king Flowers", Gilt Gophers, and like that - real people (most of 'em - and a good thing, too). |

Thanks - forearmed is forewarned. To be assessed on the next kick-oof, er, kick-off, weather permitting. When is the next hyperbowl anyhow, now that BCS has OK'd a playoff round?
Or are you referring to "hyperbowl", an authentic Mexican pot large enough to hold that palm tree taking over the front porch? Last edited by beam-eye; 07-03-2012 at 07:51 AM.. |

Same thing only different for Garrison Keilor, which I corrected a bit farther down the page in the "nice baloney" section to Keillor by simply doubling a few letters, a bit like Charles Dikkens, the famous Dutch author (see Monty Python's "Bookshop" - note the double "O" - for reference). So, "NorthernMN" defeated me - I admit it - I instinctively wanted to double the Ns, or the Ms, or maybe both of both of them, but my collected visual, tactile, and...(what's a good word for word-pronouncing tongue skills, as opposed to, say, taste bud skills)...ah, of course, lingymnistic skills got all tangled up. It's a good thing it wasn't a food article, with all the possibilities of cerebrogustatory images and drooling that might entail. And it's a good thing you don't have a Finnish name - I never would have got that rightt. Regarding "the Minnesota nice thing is baloney", I assume you agree with Seņor "Coach" Shivors about that hyperbole thing - I didn't want you to feel bad (and I've already incurred a flag on the post, with 45 word penalty), so, my sincere apologies, etc. - I feel your pain, or whatever. I really am a Bud Wilkinson fan - he invented "nice football" - and Garrison Keillor (note the two Ls), who invented lots of nice funny things about the strange goings-on in northern Minnesota, and like that. Don't let your teeth freeze! Last edited by beam-eye; 07-04-2012 at 10:49 PM.. |

Oops! I misread Coach Shivers' "putting words in your post" as "puffing words in your post" (dang those double letters - again!), which I thought referred to the "nice baloney" puffery "hyperbole" thing, which combined with Balaboo's concealed admonition regarding excess verbage led me to write "fewer puffy words", which I see now should have been "fewer putty words", or something (or better yet, nothing, if putting actual words in my posts confuses).
See, the grease on my finger on the screen made the two Ts look like Fs, and then... |
