New Presidente
May take more than 6 years, though (although that's all he gets) - looks like he's only about 16, which is about right for somebody's grandson ("nieto"). And he's a handsome one, allright - lots of women voters must have liked him. (But who's this "Peņa" that he's the grandson of? I thought "the Pineapple" was still in jail in Florida - and isnt't/wasn't he a Pandemonium, anyway?) Politics is so confusing. Well, "Hail to the Jefe"! (whoever he is)
Better just to follow the money exchange rate (it's been up and over 14 pesos to the dollar for the last month, but now heading back towards 13 over the last week - can't help but think it's related to the confidence level - or lack of - regarding the "who's in charge here?" question, and now that that's settled in pretty much the same old way (PRI, etc), the peso ought to level out down towards the 12-13 to the dollar range (i.e., the peso is relatively stronger at 12 to the dollar than at 14 - I was much happier at the 14 level, but they didn't bother to ask me), which I would guess indicates that the big money folks are happier with the "certainty" of the PRI than they are with the uncertainty of Obregon or Mota in the driver's seat. I personally preferred the former Playboy Bunny who won the pre-election debate in about 10 seconds flat (well, "flat" isn't quite the right word here, given the context) without saying a word. Whatever happened to her? |

He's a real crook by all acounts, and half of Mexico is going nuts about it.
He won by giving out food packages in exchange for votes (the evidence is plastered all around youtube, I guess he didn't think about folk with cameraphones), and manipulating the media in his favour. When he was literally chased out of university by angry students, the main papers said the visit was a huge success. If anyone's interested in his past, google "Atenco" and there are lots of sites that document what happened there. I don't think it will mean much for all the foreigners living in Mexico, but it's sad for the Mexicans. |
