My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at the Punta Cana Princess.

I'll let the video do most of the talking, but I will add this very short synopsis:

Rooms: Need some TLC: fresh paint, new bedding, a good scrub in the bathroom.
Beach: Very nice. Tan sand, turquoise water, no rocks. Not quite as good as Xpu Ha or Maroma, but very good. Loved walking it hand in hand with my wife.
Food: So-so. Paid $25 for lobster and it was good. They have a fondue restaurant - that was fun. Lunch by the beach not very good.
Location: Not much to do in the immediate area aside from a casino.
Recommend? : Only to extremely low maintenance types.

Dominican republic is fantastic especially if you get out of the resort and explore the island.
