Need a link to the current taxi rates

Hi everyone. We are in the countdown mode for our trip and I'm getting my information together. I have a taxi sheet printed out but it's from 2011. Does anyone have a link to the current taxi rates? Thanks for your help.

Here's the problem with the "published" rate sheet, when we were down there in May, none of the taxi drivers accepted those rates and in fact I saw a sign at the taxi stand at 5th and 14th(?) where that had taped over the posted rates and hand printed their own. I wanted to get a pic but I didn't have my camera.

You can get the published rated off 5th or on north end of 5th but anywhere near Juarez and 5th/10th....they'll tell you to "find another taxi". We had that happen several times.

And so you offer to pay and then they say "find another taxi". That has never ever happened to me in 20 years. They simply take the money, no comment no protest.

Remember; as we've posted (100s of times) the protocol in Playa is; know your fare. Have exact change. At the end of the journey. Get out of the taxi. Lean in through the passenger window. And pay.

It is odd to me that I was told to do this by a local resident. And for some reason, even though I am obviously a foreigner. This works just as well for me as it does for Mexican people. Yet other foreigners have a problem. I can't explain. I only pay the posted fare. I am waiting to read about someone getting arrested for offering the posted fare. I suppose that must be happening all the time?

They charge more for the queues on 5th - it's supposed to be 5 pesos more.

And the biggest problem is that you are asking what the fare is
If you know the fare (according to the rate sheet), get in, go to your destination, get out, reach in and pay...then walk.

No, we didn't ask the fare I understand that game. They wouldn't even let us IN. I'm not a newbie, Rick you KNOW me. We simply gave up hailing on 10th any where near Juarez and went further north even though it was the wrong direction.

I've never had any taxi (in Mexico) refuse me. And of all people if there was a and individual person embargo. I would be the one...... (and all of my Mexican family).

Does this mean that the cabs in Playa all have your picture and are checking it before taking any passengers? What a hassle (for the taxi drivers). But well done for being that famous in Playa.

Yeah. I know you!
If you didn't ask the fare, why would they refuse you?

Similar thing happened to us. Got in a cab in Zone 1, and he asked us how much we were going to pay him. I told him 25 Pesos, to go to our desination also in Zone 1, which included a 5 Peso tip. He refused to take us.

I said OK, and we got out and I slammed the door --- hard but not ridiculously hard.

He yelled at me for slamming the door, and I just sneered at him as we were walking away.

This was at 16 bis and 1st, so not much problem getting another one.

In hindsight, about the only thing that I could think of doing, would be sitting in his cab until he took us. Tempting, if I were by myself, but Mrs. Rat will go to great lengths to avoid confrontation, and if I'd escalated it, the cost would have been so not worth it.

You chose to do a confrontation. We advise against being provocative. Just take the taxi pay the correct fair and avoid picking a fight.......... poor taxi driver.

They asked where I was going. I told them I knew the published fare. TFB.

Anyway, the published fare says (as I recall) 25P anywhere in zone 1. However, as you also said it's +5 from 5th. So the "published" fare is subject to some random additional fees. I'm suggesting for someone who may not understand the intricacies of the Playa cab system that the published fares are not quite that cut and dried.

The taxis at the stands other than walmart etc are there to take advantage of tourists. The ones on 1st are also bad. If we're downtown we walk up to 15th and flag one down.

Actually, I chose not to do a confrontation.

I wanted to take the taxi and pay more than the correct fare.

He refused to take us.

As I said, we got in the cab, and he asked about payment. I did not initiate the conversation about fares.

Next?

In over 20 years in Mexico I've never had a taxi refuse to accept me. And so I have to admit this is an alien concept that I know nothing about. And hopefully it always will be. I know nothing about this and as a result my (so called) advice is redundant.

We have had a few refuse us, once they knew where we were going. Our house is far off of the beaten path, and some drivers want to go where they are likely to get a return fare. That's OK. We just find another taxi.

We've also had drivers refuse to take Lenny.
