How many expats work or own businesses in Playa?
I am just wondering how many expats have started a business or work in Playa del Carmen?
Is it a difficult process? And what kind of business/work do you do? I am a publisher/writer/graphic designer, working on a degree in teaching english. |

Graphic design is not well paid in the area. You need to be in the big cities to land the better accounts for a decent business, but still most of the employee salaries are low, $6,000 pesos a month for example. Grim.

There are exactly 3 expats who work in Playa. One is a guy who rents out Atari games from the back of a 1979 Pacer, the next is is a French Mime from Quebec who is available for events:problem:He is not bilingual and only mimes in French, the last is a grain farmer from Manitoba with a small piece of acreage outside playa. He doesn't actually grow anything, he's waiting for a government subsidy.![]() ![]()
