November trip to playa
The wife and I are going back to playa after a year not going without the kids. We will be staying at Reina Roja. We know the hotel has its detractors because its loud and can be considered obnoxious. My question to those of you in the know is will the first week in Nov be completely dead? We really have no choice but to go then because of work but were looking to get out and "party" at some of the local spots. Will Mamitas and or Kool be empty? Will the bar at Reina Roja be dead as well or is just a tad slower? Thanks for any info you can provide.

We used to go in November yearly before hubby became a teacher...now we go in June. Honestly, I don't remember anything being "dead" in November, and it's not really considered low season, but others can probably give more specifics. Have fun!

One of our favorite times of year is mid-October. Although it can sometimes bring more rain than other times, mostly it just means afternoon quick showers. We find that, for the most part, our favorite restaurants are open we just don't have to wait on a table! And we can walk on 5th at any time of night and not be jostled around. A few restaurants and bars close for the low season, but that is mostly in September. My guess is that you will love this time of year, and will just as much fun at your favorite party spot, and will be more likely to be remembered each night by your favorite bar tender.
Is there really a bad time to visit paradise? Have fun! |

Slow times are better!!!!!

November is the start of the high (er) season.
September and October are the slowest months here. Even then, all the restaurants, stores, beachclubs & nightclubs are open. I doubt you will be bored as there is always plenty going on. See you in November! |

I've never met or heard of anyone staying at Reina Roja, not to say there is anything wrong with that, just wondered why I don't hear a lot about the rooms. I do love going there as much as possible at night to play in the roof pool. I love it there.
What are the rooms like? I have been to Playa in early November once. That year it was cooler than usual, but still very nice. I met a lot of nice peeps that year. The crowds were not as much as other times. Still plenty of room but not dead at all at Mamita's or Kool. |

We've only been to Playa in November (the last 4 years) and always found it a great time to go, especially if you want to avoid crowds. In 2009 we went late October-early November. It was a bit hot for us (over 100F) and more humid with lots of mosquitoes. So be prepared for that. But this is also the time for Day of the Dead activities, and they do some fun stuff in town and out at Xcaret. We went late-November/early-Dec in 2008 but that was a little too cloudy for us. We generally now go mid-November when the weather is usually a little more to our liking--but there are no guarantees. We stopped by the Reina Rojo in 2010 mid-November and it was pretty dead, although they did have an apparently lively Miss Playa contest on their roof bar the previous weekend. Partying aside, going off-season has its advantages----no lines at Xplor, no reservations required for most excursions (like Rio Secreto), cheaper rates, etc. And 5th Avenue will always be lively at night.

reina roja
We stayed at Adventura Mexicana last year for the first two weeks of November and it was right across the street from the Roja and it was dead! We never saw more than 6 people in the bar whenever we walked by. I loved it being so quiet, we felt like we had the place to ourselves.

You'll be too late for any Day of the Dead activities, so ignore that idea of mine, but otherwise that's a good time to go. Again, that's IF you want fewer crowds, cheaper rates etc. Off-season is never the right time if you are looking for big parties. Please take (and share with us) pix of your gal-pal tied up in one of Reina Roja's cages.

During my last visit I walked by the Reina Roja and all I can say is the exterior is interesting. The decor is not for everyone. I dont think I would stay there simply due to the fact the mannequins on the balcony freaked my out.
