I will see if the kids would be willing to part with him to send him off for another Playa adventure, I think it would be so much fun to see more pics of him there!Sorry I bailed on the TR for a few days. Had a pretty rotten last few days, dealing with some major health issues (personal) and the death of a good friend. If I have time, and am ready for a fun distraction, I will post more Isla pics today. I really do want to see this report through.

Isla Mujeres (continued)
We stopped for lunch in the middle of the island at a place called Oscar's Mexican Grill. Definitely an off-the-beaten-path place that you won't find discussed in Trip Advisor or any Isla boards...at least I couldn't find anything! It's in an area right in the middle where there is a lagoon. Those familiar with the island will know what I mean. Everything was very, very good! The guac, the burgers, the shrimp tacos...this is a must do on our list when we return. We loved this place. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wish I would have gotten a picture of the drive-through beer store right across the street from Oscar's but I didn't. However, it was fun to drive the golf cart through, grab a bag of ice to replenish the cooler, and a six pack! ![]() Next, the Floating Island... ![]() ![]() We ended the day on Playa Norte, over near the Sunset Grill... I loved this lady and bought several items from her... ![]() Then there was this purse guy... ![]() And this boat... ![]() The boys had fun at Playa Norte... ![]() So did Mr. Bill... ![]() The boys buried him in the sand... ![]() And he got into a little seaweed... ![]() Then it was time to return the golf cart, and head back to the ferry... ![]() What a fantastic day! ![]() Thanks for continuing to read along...a few shots from Playa Del Carmen are up next, then more shots around the resort and this TR will be put to bed.

I really need to go back to Isla, I've always wanted to see that floating island.
Great pics, the food looks delish! Your sons are so cute! I'm so glad Mr Bill has been found! So sorry about your health issues and the loss of your friend. ((hugs)) |

I would love to go back and stay on Isla the whole time next trip, but Miles says he thinks he might get bored . The boys are up for it though...I didn't mention this but we let them each drive the golf cart a little (in an empty parking lot! ), and I think that is the main reason they want to go back. We might consider a split trip, but talking to some people who have done that, it seems like a little bit of a pain. At a minimum, a day trip (or two) to Isla will ALWAYS be on my itinerary from now on! I am only sorry we waited 12 years to get there. I will be having some major surgery that will require a 6 week leave of absence from work, but everything is going to be ok - - it's not life threatening or the "C" word, thank God. Just wrapping my head around how it's all going to work with the boys, carpooling, school, etc...we don't have any family in Chicago, so just trying to sort it all out. But, thanks for your kind thoughts...I appreciate it! Who wants to come to Chicago and take care of me/the boys?

Playa Del Carmen "Mini" Day Trip
So, because Miles was sick, we were playing a lot of things by ear, including heading into PDC. It's about a $40 taxi ride from the NOW Jade, but they did offer a shuttle for $15 per person (round trip), however, I didn't want to be on their time constraints. Because of our wishy-washyness we didn't get to hook up with some of the peeps I really wanted to (sorry for all of the Facebook back and forth to those who know who they are! ), but we DID get to have some beers with Sue and Rick at Bad Boys, and then Wah Wah's! ![]() They were fostering a puppy that night (what else is new?!) but came out anyway to see us! Thanks for coming out guys. It was great to see you both again. I didn't get a pic, though. There is always next time...We came out late afternoon, and headed straight for Carboncitos... ![]() Salsa Sampler... ![]() THAT Shrimp dish (no peppers for me)... ![]() ![]() The boys on 5th...we got a great deal on Grant's Messi uniform, he was thrilled and wore it out of the store ![]() ![]() ![]() Familiar site... ![]() Walking over from Bad Boys to get overpriced Gelato at Calle 4 and 5th Ave...a Lee boy tradition ![]() ![]() The stage at Wah Wah's - - Holy Cow, this place is nice! Wish we had more time there...![]() ![]() Not everyone was thrilled with Wah Wah's, though ![]() ![]() Before heading back, Miles had to do his Jelly Fish shopping...and I bought a Gourd trinket box this year... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mr. Bill wanted to do some shopping too! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We didn't make it much past Calle 12, it was a quick PDC "drive through" trip, which felt really weird. But Miles was feeling pretty crappy and as you saw, Grant was beat, so with our key purchases in hand - - and belly full of beers and the satisfaction of seeing a few great Peeps, we headed back to the NOW. ![]() This is out of context, but I did find a few more Isla Mujeres pics of some of the residential area. I am not saying this is representative of how everyone lives on the island, and for all I know some of these might be "rentals" but I thought I would share some of the shots I took. Forgot to post them in earlier installment... ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I've got one more installment in me...some random resort shots to tie things up. Thanks for hanging in there! So very sorry for your loss and your health problems. I'm glad whatever it is isn't more serious.
Tell the boys if Mr Bill goes to PDC with us that I will personally guarantee his return to them as soon as we get back in town! Lol! I think we need to start a PI tradition that whomever is going to Mx take him with them and post a TR after they return. Who knows what corners of the world he would visit! |

Wrapping it up in a neat little bow!
This is the last TR installment...I wanted to talk a little bit about the Entertainment at the resort (for those of you who are contemplating a trip to the NOW Jade), and post some random pics. ENTERTAINMENT: I am going to lump the Lobby Bar area in here as that seems to be the central hot spot for evening activities, aside from the nightly shows. The Lobby Bar is always very busy, and a fun place for a nightcap. On many nights they had fun bands playing in the Lobby - - and you haven't heard anything until you have heard "Play that Funky Music White Boy" done by Mexican musicians. ![]() In the theatre, they have themed nights several nights a week, and on two nights (Mexican and Carribean) they serve buffet style dinner in the Theatre during the “show.” We didn’t attend these shows. We did see the fire/water show, which was very good and the Circus, which was also very entertaining. Here are just a few Circus pics, the lighting was bad for my camera... ![]() ![]() Since we had kids with us, we didn’t hit the nightclub Sports bar, but did go in there one night around 8:00 and shot some pool - - we were the only ones in there. The entertainment options were fine for us, but I would imagine younger people looking for more “nightlife” might get a little bored here. ![]() KIDS STUFF: They offered pottery painting for the kids on the beach, but the prices were outrageous - - $25 for the smallest piece. Here are the boys taking part (just once!) ![]() Even Mr. Bill got in on the action! ![]() We didn’t take part in any of the water activities as the two days we wanted to the surf was too high/waters were too rough, but they do have everything you could want available...jet ski's, parasailing, etc.... EXPLORER CLUB: My boys aged 8 and 11 went to the club a few times, mostly to play video games (which they do at a regulated time – 1:30 in the afternoon), and a few times we left them there while we went out to eat. It was fine for them, but I think more geared towards younger kids/toddlers. They do give you a beeper though, so that is a nice touch. However, by the 3rd time, we signed a paper saying the boys could sign themselves in and out and they liked the "freedom" more and used the facilities more often. There were other activities for the kids during the day at set times. Everyday at 4:00 was Euro Bungee! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() SPA: I had a pedicure one day and had a fantastic experience! The Spa stays very busy with wedding parties, but they made time for me/squeezed me in when they were already booked, and I never felt neglected or rushed. So, that about wraps it up. As I mentioned earlier, I think this was our best trip to Mexico yet (aside from Miles being sick ). I highly recommend this property, as well as Crococun and taking a day trip to Isla. Thanks for reading along...and adios until next time.... ![]()

![]() LB4Playa, I will be watching for your TR! Side note...The NOW Jade posted a picture of the head of the Entertainment Staff guy (one of the guys Miles was "coaching" from the infinity pool sidelines), and it turns out he was on the Men's Olympic Volleyball Team in the Barcelona games in '92 ![]() Miles found that very funny
