Newbie to Mexico :)

We are flying out to Mexico 28th July and staying at the Wyndham Maya with our two children. What trips would you all be able to recommend for us, was hoping to visit Chichen Itza but it's looking like it might be a bit of a long one with the kids, they are aged 9 & 12 so possibly might be ok?

Welcome! Tulum is much closer. It is very nice. And after seeing the ruins YOU CAN SWIM THERE. Always a selling point for the kids. Any of the area eco parks, zip lines, etc... would be good excursions with kids that age.

Go into town is about a 5 minute, $5.00 cab ride from there with plenty of eating drinking and shopping to do.

Xel Ha, Xcaret, plus many more would be the eco theme parks to look into.

Please report on your thoughts of the Wyndham Maya when you get back! I have passed by it many times and often wondered what it offers.

Thanks! You guys will have a blast!

Welcome!!! Chichen Itza is a long way(usually a full day trip), and at this time of year will be very hot and humid, not good for kids! Tulum is closer, and after the ruins go to a beach or a cenote!

Newbee to the Playa,

We are flying in on Sunday July 22, and also staying at the Wydham Playa.

We have 2 families going to Playa del Carmen, total of 7 of us. Really don't want to take the bus in.. is there any other transportation from the airport to take? Any suggestions..... Who is a reputable company?
Also what would be a good activity for teenagers to do... ??? We are planning on going ziplining and go Xelha.

Transfer? You can trust the site you are on

Playa del Carmen - Airport Transfer Reservation

Your activities sound good.

Snorkeling in Akumal Bay (north end). We have always seen turtles there. In addition, you will be in the heart of turtle nest hatching season in late July. If you think your kids would like to see baby turtles hatching, contact Centro Ecológico Akumal | Ecology Center CEA | Quintana Roo | Mexico . They have nightly "turtle walks" you can join.

jeffandbecky's suggestion for Akumal and seeing the turtles is a great one. We never miss a day trip to Akumal when we are in Playa. It's where our love of this area originally started. And I still remember our first turtle walk which was about 10 years ago. Unforgettable experience. The water at Akumal is also very smooth and, imo, more fun to play in the water than the beaches in Playa. Have fun!
