son travelling with friends, mom worried
Greetings..
Here's the situation. My son (19 yrs old) is going to Mexico for two weeks with some friends. It's a group of 9 of them, all boys. For some reason, my son has somehow managed to get a room just for himself, while all the other boys are sharing accomodation. My wife is worried about some potential bad behavior down there. They are out of the way I think, staying at Akumal Beach Resort. But my wife found out prostitution is legal there, and well, he was found with a prostitute here in Canada last year. So she's worried that he wanted a room for himself just so that he could get one, and she's terrified he'll come back with an STD. I've done the fatherly thing and talked to him, and he's said he's not going to. But I know how boys are. SO my question is, how easy is it to get a prostitute at the Akumal Beach resort? I think it's about 30 miles south of Playa Del Carmen, which is where I hear all the prostitutes are. He's not going to have a car, so if he did want one, she would have to go to him. My wife is hoping there is a lack of 'providers' in this general area, and he wouldn't be able to find one if he tried. Akumal doesn't have a road that prostitutes hang out on does it? From the map it looks pretty small. And would escorts from outlying towns (Playa del Carmen) be willing to drive that far if he tried to call one? I kinda feel that if he wanted one, he'd get one. I just hope he does it safely. But that doesn't console my wife. any thoughts? |

The girls have to pass health exams. Supposedly.
They don't hang out at the resort - they will be at the strip clubs off of the resort. If he wants a prostitute it will be a simple matter to grab a taxi to a strip club. It's not likely he would sneak a girl onto the resort - but I won't say it can't happen What a ya gonna do? |

When you say it's not likely he would sneak a girl on to the resort, does that imply that the resort frowns on their guests bringing back prostitutes? I kinda hope that would be the case, but I doubt they care too much.
Thanks for your response! Quote:

Don't worry. He'll probably find out that it's more trouble than it's worth. Tell him to hook up with a nice girl at the resort. Safer and cheaper.

I don't know how else to respond to this. I've spent a lot of years moderating on this board and this is a new one! I have a 20 year old and while I know he wouldn't be out looking for prostitutes, I also wouldn't let him go to Mexico alone. Yeah, maybe I'm a bit overprotective, but he's also pretty immature for his age - I'm not sure he'd get how to travel alone to Mexico, even if he was with friends. I'd be more worried about overdrinking, getting hurt while overdrinking, doing something stupid while overdrinking (because when people travel, they often forget to pack their common sense!) and things like that. There's really not much you can do I guess, if you're allowing him to go, he will be able to do what he wants even if it means traveling to Playa to do that. All the heart to heart talks we have with our kids, some of those talks fall on deaf ears! The ball is in his court, he's either going to fly straight...or not!
