Verizon Cell service at Barcelo Maya Palace?
This would be the second time going back to the palace. But since we have a little guy back home now, we kind of want a cell phone around. Also does Barcelo have its own shuttle service from airport to hotel? how much?

Actually, Barcelo does have a transfer service they'll book for you if you contact them directly. However, it's about double the cost of a private transfer service you can book on your own.

Truth be told, no hotels have their own transfer service - outside of Zoetry and maybe a few other high end exclusive resorts. But you can go through most every resort and book a transfer, but that transfer will be sub contracted with an outside vendor.
In not taking the original question so literal when asked if the Barcelo has it's OWN transfer service, I just answer the question with a more general answer that the hotel will book you one if you ask them to. Anyone doing that might think it's a transfer run by the hotel, however, it's not. But since the general traveler might not know that, and if they did contact the resort looking for a "transfer supplied by the resort" - they can get one and may likely think it's the hotel's OWN transfer. Either way, the question was answered. |

Verizon has a $15 add-on for most (all?) monthly plans which gives unlimited calling/data while in Mexico. Our extended family had mixed results with it though - one phone worked just fine while the other looked like it was only setup to make/receive calls to/from US phone numbers. Which was kind of annoying since there were four of us on Mexican Telcel numbers and staying in a villa with a local landline phone number!
We never were able to figure out just what was wrong with it compared to the other, and I don't think we know to this day.

No they don't. If you book with those hotels directly or somewhere online where transfers are not included, you can contact them and they will book you with Amstar. Apple also uses Amstar for all of their transfers in Mexico, but anyone can book with Amstar, they have their own web site. Apple upgrades anyone booked with them at a Now, Dreams or Secrets property to non stop transfers though. You can upgrade to private transfers for $50/pp too.
