New to Playa

My wife and I and our 9 year old son are here for a month and trying to decide whether we want to move here. We got in last week and are house sitting for my sister who lives here full time.

I looked at rentals this last weekend in Playacar and found one I really liked. Now we are settled in at my sisters and are exploring. She has been here a year and has a beautiful house.

My wife and i both work on the internet/phone and we can do what we do from anywhere.

I am looking for activities for my 9 year old boy who loves skateboarding and all things water. We are interested in meeting other people who are evaluating a life here or have made the leap.

Please respond by email.

Jeff, Nancy and Bear

Well...responding here may be the best way since responding by email is difficult when no email address is given

Hola Jeff and crew - welcome to Playa! My wife and I bought in Playacar in 2008 and have had no regrets! We still live in the states, but visit often. Our long term goal is to spend months at a time down there - but currently we are still working for a living!!

welcome to playa and to the forum. my wife and i moved here recently as well and we both love it.

i went by the overpass (Av Constituyentes and Carretera Federal), recently on the bicycle and noticed that they were building what looked like a skate park under there. maybe someone can confirm this? i did see kids skateboarding there and it looked to have a bowl of some sort with some rails set up.

Update: i remember seeing kids boarding in front of the municipal palace between 8th and 10th the other night. could be another option.

i found this article from last month about the skate park situation here in playa. there was a gathering of skaters at the municipal park to raise awareness for the need of a professionally built skate park here in playa. the article reports that 150 were in attendance to show their support for a skate park.

it also seems to point towards the building of a skate park under the over passes. the group has a facebook page here.

here is the number for the department of sports here in playa: 85 928 07. i tried ringing them but no answer... must be lunch time. they should be able to give you more information about activities and clubs for kids.

Yes, a skate board park that has gotten horrible reviews from the local skate boarders.
And basketball courts.
And an out door gym.
And a playground
And a horribly designed parking lot.

We found the ones under the overpass and have skated on those a bit and we also found one in Puerto Adventures...I am still here for another couple of weeks...we have a lease agreement that we are looking at for Sept 1 for a villa in Playacar.

We are leaving in a week but have hired an attorney to review the lease and help us with our visas. Our plan is to come back Oct 1 for our lease in Playacar. We have an SUV and a dog to get down here not to mention a lot of our personal stuff.

Has anyone put there been through this?
