Coming Back!!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but I'll take my chances.
After a FABULOUS time at the Gran Porto Real the week of 7/11-7/18, hubby and I are planning on coming back next summer with the kids (ages 12 and 15 at the time of travel). Trouble is, airfare into Cancun will KILL us. I got this crazy idea to fly into Cozumel, take the ferry across to Playa, and walk up Fifth to the GPR. This will save us almost $1000. Any thoughts on this? |

It can, and has, been done. The problem with that is that it's close to impossible to find a direct flight into Cozumel, and you end up taking an entire day to allow for transfers. And we all know what a drag it is throwing away an entire day on precious vacation time, just for the flight.
It's a year away at this point, so I wouldn't book any flights just yet because the price to CUN may go down. |

I've been watching flights for months, since Feb for our upcoming late Aug trip. A friend, who reitried from USAir said that early Wed morning they would sometimes lower the price. So, I started checking, airfare was running $503-$680. Several weeks ago, early on a Wed morning, I got it for $365! I haven't checked since, afraid it dropped again and I would be kicking myself!! But, be patient and get up early on Wednesdays! Btw, I checked at 5:30 a.m.

If you're booking a flight to Coz that has a published fare, you're most likely going to be paying the full cost of the airfare upfront anyway. Since there aren't any charters from Denver to Coz in July, it won't be a charter fare deposit (which is $125/pp), it's full cost of the airfare at the time of booking. There IS a non stop charter from DEN to CZM but those flights only operate Nov-Apr. If you fly United into Coz, you may find a bulk fare which would allow for a $150/pp deposit, but you can't count on that. What I'm trying to say is agent or not, you're probably going to have to pay for the 4 airline tickets at the time of booking, only the final payment would be due 30-45 days prior to departure.
Also, when flying into Coz but staying in Riviera Maya, not only do you lose a lot of time and spend more money transferring to/from Coz, you also have to worry about possible weather complications. Should the weather get dicey, they can shut those ferries down and you'd have no way to get back to Coz to catch your flight. Summer is hurricane season so any kind of storm blowing through could be an issue. |

You know, I know about saving the money, I really do. I loved Playa so much, and there were so many things that I still wanted to do. If I can start to plan our trip back, even just a little, it makes it easier to be away.
I know I should chill out, there isn't even any airfare published for the dates we want to go. I just miss it. I missed it before we even left.
