Calling Playa numbers from US cell phone on International Roaming?

Having one small difficultly with cell phones...calling Playa numbers from a US cell phone on International Roaming.

Conventional wisdom is that one would dial + instead of the Country Code for MX, plus the 984 area code for Playa and then the number. But it doesn't seem to work - we get a recording in Spanish that (our waiter from lunch yesterday) translates to something like we've dialed the wrong number.

Now, admittedly, we haven't tried going back to using the Country Code, plus the area code, plus the number yet, because we've actually gone to local Telcel numbers for most of our tribe. But we have two holdouts who got that $15 unlimited add-on for their AT&T service, and they don't want to (or can't because their phones are carrier locked) change.

Any sage advice would be much appreciated.

Try 011521, then the area code and number.

Guess I need to backtrack a little bit. I meant + instead of the International Access code. Then the country code.

I think the problem may have been, looking at your post gdone, is that I may have mistakenly given 53 as the Country Code, not 52. I just tried the substitution and it now works +52 984 *** ***.
