O-Negative Blood needed!

My friend Amy Hughes de Romano, from Pto Aventuras posted this on FB, and asked that I post it here for all the Playa folks to see.

We drove past a horrific accident on Tuesday - The lady involved is American and hospitalised in Playa Del Carmen - If ANY ONE can help she is awaiting O NEG blood for many surgeries... Please pass on to any one you may know who can help... Reposting form last night as just had a phone call from a local lady who is O NEG - O NEG IS RARE in Mexico as it is European descended blood group.. Please HELP if you can!

More info from one of her friends:
Lucy Gallagher-Freymuth Ames, for anyone who can help. The blood donations would be at the Hospital General (in the poblado) for : Crystal Anne Mitchell Hinojosa Cuarto # 105. Thank you so much to those who are passing on the information and donating blood!

If anyone is O-Negative and can donate blood - it would certainly be appreciated!

To Tulum friends: for those of you who don't know yet. Crystal Mitchell was involved in a horrific car accident a couple of days ago. She is in Playa at the Hospital General awaiting many surgeries. She needs blood - 0 Negative - can anyone help?

If anyone is O-Negative and can donate blood - it would certainly be appreciated!

Blood Banks

In addition to the blood bank at the Centro de Salud here in Playa, try the blood bank at Hospital Galena (Cancun) run by Doctora Abbitts (998) 120-5434. Suerte.

Rh- O type

I am sorry that I am not in Playa to help Crystal and hope that she receives the blood she needs and recovers shortly.

Hearing about her horrific accident and how my blood type Rh-O type, a universal type , could make such a difference in her recovery has finally made me decide to donate my blood. I have an appt for Thurs to do so, but I am in Canada right now. I feel so selfish that I have not done it before, and plan to continue to donate.

In the winter I am in Playa and I plan to make another donation while there.

That is very good news. I live in the US and so I cannot donate my blood. In the US they don't want blood from anyone that has recently visited Quntana Roo. When I am back in Playa I can donate.

I could lie, but that is just not me.

I have been reading that recently more blood banks are accepting blood from Quintana Roo visitors, perhaps they will take my blood this year after all; I have not asked very recently. I posted to provoke an update (from someone that would know).

So when you try to give blood in California they ask you "have you been to Q.Roo lately"?

Those are not be the exact words, but that is the gist of the question. If I get the time or the patience I will link to another thread on this subject.

However in the mean time please refrain from looking up my posts and asking me questions. I don't really have any interest in the resulting dialog.

I have checked the red cross web site, and as of today. If I try to donate blood at the red cross, I have to answer the question about going out of the country. And if I answer yes, I have to name the country. If I name Mexico, then that is not on the "No Malaria" list and so (to cut things short) blood donation is refused, as they don't test blood for malaria and not everyone has symptoms. I take this stuff seriously. It is not a joke to me. Please don't post any more questions to me on any subject as this is harassment.

Eligibility Criteria by Alphabetical Listing | American Red Cross

If another person in the US, has some recent experience and knowledge regarding this I would be interested to read it.

Ugh this nonsense is getting very tiring.
Crystal is a mom of two young children. I am praying for her recovery. And this is a serious thread.

Yes. Jimi promised to go and check on Crystal this afternoon. I don't know her personally, but if I was there they can take as much blood as they need.

I've gone through major surgery in Q Roo and have a bunch of titanium plates (that now hold my skull together) to prove it. I survived in part due to the amazing support (more than I could ever describe) from a friend in the area. An amazing lady, one of the first people Jimi called for help on this.

And to that friend, you know who you are; I am forever grateful. Thank you for helping save my life. Prayers for Crystal. I am recovered and living a normal life thanks to that friend. Things could have been quite different without someone to watch over me. Hopefully Crystal will have the same result, hopefully with a little less titanium.

beerbreath, in my opinion, this is a thread that was created in order to help someone and has, in a positive way, help and inform. I do not believe that this is a thread to start debating, especially, when there may be a life at stake and is also creating awareness.

I have the same issue, I was a regular blood donor for years until I started traveling to Playa, it's funny, Cancun is ok but not Playa.
