Artist Supply Store

Does anyone know of an art store here in PDC or in Cancun that sells real watercolors, e.g. tubes of DaVinci brand paints?

I was up in Cancun just yesterday as a friend of mine needed some artist supplies. We went looking for the large art supply store close to the ADO Main Terminal but could not find it. Since I had been there before, I must assume that it either has moved to another location or gone out of business.

As told that there is another art store west of AV. 30 on calle 8. I can not confirm this.

If you can't find any let me know and I can prob stop at the local Hobby Lobby and pick something up for you. I'm coming in on Saturday.

In PDC, your best bet (but not guaranteed) is the drafting/plotting shop, sorry but I can't remember the name! - on the south side of calle 8, 1/2 block west of av 30 (right near Walmart). There is a small strip mall there, with a pool maintenance store next to it.

But if you want to go up to Cancun... Papelería Cancún is as close to heaven in an art supply store as I've found in Quintana Roo!

Oh! Also! There is a new shop on the exterior of Centro Maya, near the pet store Mundo Animal, that has a small selection of things. I suspect they don't have higher end paints, but they DO have stretched canvases, in stock, up to a decent size, which makes me happy, is closer than Cancun, and means I don't have to stretch and prime it myself.

Another possible option is Academika on Calle 10 between 10th and 15th.

Where, exactly? I don't know that one, and I don't see it on (dated) Google Streetview. Is it in that new-ish building?

It opened in June so it won't be on Street Views.
Exactly? It's on Calle 10 between 10th and 15th
Across from the Municipal Plaza.

This is a great store. Not as big as the Cancun one, but has a lot of supplies.

Academika is in the "new-ish" blocky-looking "Henry Moore-ish" Swiss cheese (or would that be Brit-tish Swiss Cheese?) building that's been forever a-building on the corner of Calle 10 and 15th (so it's technically "between" 15th and 20th) - the one with the peeling plywood sheeting all over the downstairs windows, looks like an abandoned new building - Academika is up the stairs at the west end of the building (red signs).

But do they have what you want? Haven't the foggiest (but I was able to identify the Henry Moore-ish-looking holes in the frightening-looking way-out-of-proportion wingy thingys that look like inverted flying buttresses on the front of the building.

Thanks so much for these great responses. Sorry I did not check back sooner or I would have taken the offer to mule. But we'll definitely look at these recommendations and I'll let you all know what works best. Thanks, Playa folks.

Now that's not only exact, but also an exceptional application of adjectives and stuff.

If you do get a chance to check out Academika, a report would be greatly appreciated, esp. if they carry gouache.

Thanks to Babaloo for the Academika ref - checked it out today, large well laid-out area for art supplies (including gouche), and lots of it. Looks like the store for you. Also checked out the engineers, architects, and artists store on Calle 8 just catty-corner south-west from Walmart (not on the corner, but about 100 feet west of the corner) recommended by Ninjacita - carries lots of supplies, including water-colors/gouche (Van Gogh brand in tubes - and oils, too) - sorry didn't check the brand name at Academika. Both look good. Suerte
