booster seats in Mexico

We are going to vacation in playa del carmen and we will be renting a car does my 5 year old need a booster seat

There are no car seat laws in Mexico. You can bring one and use it of course, but you don't have to.

I don't think that they are required by law.
Darn, you can see a family of 4 riding around town on a small scooter so
I see no reason to require a booster seat in a rental car.

Booster seats are not common and hard to find here. Car Seats for smaller/younger children are more common and easier to find.

It isn't required, but really, would you drive at home with your 5 year old in the car without a booster seat? I wouldn't and don't at home or there. It is little or no trouble to gate check your booster seat and have it for your trip.

I always ask myself how I would feel if something happened and I choose not to be inconvenienced by the hassle - because while it is an inconvenience, it isn't that bad.
