I'm loving all these stories, too, it's so fun to see how people who post here all the time "found" the spot we all love so much.

My adventures began about 15 years ago. Went to Cancun serveral time and on a whim went to Playa. Then one year a friend and I decided to leave Cancun behind and Playa became my home base. I have been all over this area and still come back to Playa. It is like a second home now and I love my friends that I have made. Try to get down 2-3 times a year. This year I am lucky enough to make it three!!! Back for Haloween!!!

exactly... we were at an ai, did the day trip.. have never looked back...

i love staying in our little boutique hotel, trying something new every day, every visit.. and we have made such amazing friends in some of the locals that its not just vacation but visiting family.. we see them all each time we come down with the promise of the next trip always around the corner..we email and text during the year ... as far as im concerned, playa is my home, im just stuck in ny until i can return there permanently..

In my past Mexico travels I'd go to the Pacific coast (Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta) and to inland Sinaloa to my aunt's hometown of Cosala. But I always remembered an old friend's stories about his trips to the "Tulum Corridor" years back, and it sounded intriguing. About the same time I started researching Isla Mujeres as a possibility for an upcoming trip my parents met my aunt and uncle down in Playa and ended up buying a timeshare.

To make a long story short my mother had a TIA while in Mega (or Chedraui), and a full stroke later that year. My parents pretty much stopped traveling any long distances after that and so, well, someone had to use it! Brian and I started coming to Playa the following year and fell in love with the area.

This will be our 10th yearly trip in December. Actually 11th trip if you count the one night trip we made last year to pick up our puppy Ixchel!

In 2001, I went to Cancun and stayed in a neighbor's time share at the Westin. I hated it. Cancun sucked.

In 2005, I took my mother to the Grand Palladium AI, and we did a one day trip into Playa to go to Cozumel.

In 2008, I went again to the Grand Palladium with my cousin, and we did a trip into Playa and I loved it.

The next year I ditched AI's altogether and have been staying in Playa ever since.....2009, 2010 (2x), 2011 and 2012. And booked for 2013.

I went to Cancun in 1999 with a girlfriend, loved the local bus system, could not stand the town, I felt like I was in Florida.

My son was married in 2001 at the IB Tucan, which is when I found Playa. My wife and I honeymooned at the Tucan the next year and the rest is history, look at my signature.

Like some others, I can not believe how it has changed in the last few years.

We have been back to the area 5 times since, and about 15 times elsewhere in Mexico. Most recently in this area we've been to Isla Mujeres (last summer, ADORED IT!!) and to the Barcelo Palace in February (after 5 non AI trips, our first AI, had a great time with another four couples).

Unlike many of the regulars this area is not my #1 spot but a close second...we love it for the beaches and diving and snorkeling, and cenotes and great restaurants.
I hear ya, We loved the Sierra Madres, ocean in the front window , mountains in the back.
We also liked Cabo San Lucas very much, we stayed at the Tesorro , nice pier in the front , village in the back. I don't think it's there anymore.

Alas we are on the Atlantic Canada coast, so the fly time is the same to West Mexico as it is to Spain. ( where we have spent a lot of time).

With the advent of direct flights from our town to Cancun, it is often "on sale", so we now have our "Fav" in Playa, with side trips to Isla Mujures and Aventuras.

While Costa del Sol often calls out for our return we still manage at least one trip to Playa per winter.

I'm sure our love affair with PDC started in much the same way as for many others.... we made a trip to some massive, over-priced, non-friendly, all-inclusive to somewhere in Riviera Maya.... decided to break the boredom by going to PDC for some shopping & dinner outside of the AI buffet for a change.... and the rest, as they say is HISTORY. It was LOVE at first sight, or bite....

My wife and I took a cruse that stopped at Cozumel and we booked a tour of Chichén Itzá. The only look we got of Playa was from the ferry, and out the window of the tour bus on our way to the ruins. A few years later we were planning a vacation and thinking about going to Cancun. In the process of looking for a hotel on Orbitz we were getting listings of places to stay in Playa and remembered the neat looking town we saw out the bus window. We ended up booking a room and have yet to go to Cancun. It’s now where I have my dental work done and I’m having three new caps done in November.
I'm also staying at cub Yebo

Dr Armenta, he does great work. I had my 4 upper front teeth capped by him 2 years ago.
