I started in mid 90's going to Cozumel; an island not many people had heard about. Needless to say we fell in love with it. My husband got into scuba diving and we enjoy many trips there till our divorce in 2003. I wanted to go back to Mexico in 2004 but not Cozumel. So I came to Playa and fell in love all over again!!!!! Now as I watch all the cruise ships landing In Cozumel and have made a couple of day trips to Cozumel...............Playa has my heart and we go every Feb and wait for the day we retire and are able to go longer.

These stories are sooooooooo good!!!

In 2006 my not-yet, but might as well have been, Sister-In-Law suggested a cruise to almost Husband and I. Almost Husband said no and I was busy packing my bags As we were leaving Progresso I mentioned to her we could go to Playa the next day but she wanted to stay in Cozumel and snorkel. As we disembarked I looked forlornly across the water as the ferries left me behind I’ll be back someday.

As now even closer to being Husband I and started planning our Honeymoon I knew what I wanted – Playa. I just needed to convince him. I enlisted my handy dandy you can’t say no to him travel agent and we were booked. March 2009 at Playacar Palace. My that was a wonderful place. When we walked up the steps in the Lobby to look out over the pool to that beautiful turquoise water…I’ll never be the same. I had found my “happy place”. I’m just sad there was no beach there at that time. In didn’t really matter much, I was in love. I’ll be back.

I spent every second I could researching ever thing I could about PDC. I bought MapChick maps and joined forums. I spent HOURS reading voraciously about my “happy place”. And so…

May/June 2010 my most precious Mommy moved back from the Middle East and I couldn’t wait to spend her money I knew she would feel the love I did when I first saw the waters of Playa. This time was different though. When we walked into the Lobby at the Royal and the way that archway sits just so, and all you see is miles of blue, blue water; we froze. I thought she was about to cry truth be told. We spent a fantastic week being pampered and loved. And we loved back. We cried on the shuttle back to the airport dreaming of our return. We’ll be back.

As soon as we returned from that trip we started planning our next. But this time would be different again. No more AI’s Mommy. No more. We immediately set in motion our plans. We stayed our greatest week to date at the Fusion. We walked EVERYWHERE and saw so much. We ate so much and drank so much. We finally felt like we could call Playa home. We finally visited Tulum and went to the Jungle Place. It was magical. And something a year and half later we still dream about. Thus, we are not planning our next trip, again not AI. I don’t think we’ll ever do that again. I have all of you to thank for that, for showing us that most amazing world outside those resort walls. We’ll be back…soon.

Great read Stargazer

Found PdC @ 1997
Had been visiting the Cun for many years before. Got hooked the first cab ride we took. I want to say it was like $25 RT and the cabbie waited on us all day to ride back with. Four of us ate on the beach, had two beers each and our tab was $14 US dollars. Those were the days !!

You're most welcome, and thank you for your gracious comment.
I started this thread because I know we didn't find PDC via media or even word of mouth.
I felt that if WE stumbled upon it, chances are.... many others did as well, which would illicit some stories.
It's these stories that I was trying to ply from our forum neighbors, and couldn't be more pleased with the results.
Some of the stories let you live vicariously through another persons discovery of the place you all love.

in july 2008 my husband and my childrens dad died and as the year went on and christmas loomed my daughter and i decided we couldnt stay at home so where to go?? we needed sunshine so had to look further than europe and after talking to out travel agent who had just been to look at playa del carmen with her job we decided to give it a go. we went to the riu lupita and totally fell in love with playa even though it was a very sad time. since then we have been another three times including a month in an apartment which was fabulous. so as they say every cloud has a silver lining and even though it takes us 11 hours to get to mexico we very rarely think of going anywhere else now. i even bought my 80 year old mom a couple of years ago she also fell in love but is unable to go again due to her age and health but we are so pleased she had the chance to experience it once.

My Husband's exact response! LOL!!
