We stayed at the Posada del Mar. A very mid range/economical place. Next to Jax.

There are plenty of lovely boutique hotels in Playa. If you do a search on here or read back through the threads on the General Forum you will find lots of suggestions.

Check out the Aventura Mexicana

Everyone who stays there loves it. It is not beachfront, however.

Also, if you are staying at least a week, check out all the condos on www.vrbo.com

One that I have heard lots of good things about and is in the north end (I am biased but I love it up there!) is Palmar del Sol. You get to use the beach club at Las Palapas hotel.

Palmar Del Sol in Playa del Carmen Quintana Roo Vacation Rentals by Owner - Palmar Del Sol in Playa del Carmen Quintana Roo VRBO, Vacation Home Rentals, Condo Rentals, FRBO Vacation Rentals, Palmar Del Sol in Playa del Carmen Quintana Roo Travel Info

You can get some really sweet deals on condos in the low season, and that way, if it rains, you have a lovely large space to chill in!

We have also stayed at Posada del Mar on Isla, and in Sabina's Apartments

We usually rent a condo or apartment now, but we like Club Yebo, a hotel on 1st Ave around Calle 10.

On several of our trips we have stayed 3 or 4 nights on Isla and then spent time in Playa and Merida.

I am an early riser and was a regular visitor to the 7-11 near the ferry dock from drip-brewed coffee

One more thing....

And I hate to ask...lol

Favorite restaurants? Its funny because I am a regular on the Isla Board...and this is the most often asked question. I always help out and give my opinion...so since I have never stayed in Playa I am going to ask. I have checked out trip advisor and searched here but you have been so nice! I want your opinion, We like all types of food...Looking for your MUST do places...I have Laura's map on the way so directions will not be needed...

Thanks again,

Carl&Stacy

Playa is safe!!!

9 trips in 3 1/2 years........2 of which have been ladies-only.

I would NEVER walk in downtown Augusta, GA by myself, esp. after dark......no worries in Playa.

It is just so funny, people always paranoid over safety in Playa and I have traveled all over the world and never found anywhere(except maybe Greece) where I felt so safe. People are so surprised we bought in Mexico and yet they go to Jamaica and Dominican.

I took three grandkids 6,7,11 and 26 year old goddaughter, never once was concerned about safety, rode the ADO, walked all over town and had a great time.

Great move

All kinds os great advice here and the one common denomenator is SAFETY. I cannot agree more. Been to Playa many times and will be there again for 8 weeks this winter. I do not recall ever witnessing a bad event or even hearing about one while I was in Playa.
Have funnnn.
Rohelio
