Switching from Isla To Playa

After 21 times to Isla Mujeres we are going to Playa for our first time...We are excited and a little concerned that things won't be as fun...It looks exciting, but we have felt VERY safe on Isla...Any advise for us?

More fun?
Much more fun than Isla.
And it's safe here.
Glad to see you are expanding your horizons.

It's fun and it's safe. Keep your eye on the Peeps section and you might find a peep meet or event going on while you're there.

You will feel just as safe as a tourist in Playa. And I agree there is more 'fun' to be found/had in PDC- it's a lot bigger with way more shops/clubs/restaurants/people. It just depends how you define an enjoyable vacation.

We have stayed in Playa four times and Isla once, we loved both.

I live in Playa AND I love Isla too! It is quite safe and there is A LOT to do and see in and around Playa. While you are here be sure to click on our Events Calendar (the link is in my signature) to see what is going on in town during your stay! There is a lot of info on this forum so click around and ask more specific questions as the date approaches.

Thanks everyone!

Our plan is not to make plans....Just show up with no reservations, find a room....Maybe the Banana for a couple of nights? Then look and shop around for a different room if we feel the need. I assume there will be plenty of rooms available? I think we can walk around and try to get a better deal or upgraded room than if we reserved in advance? Is this a bad idea?

That is low season, you shouldn't have a problem.

So long as you enjoy winging it....I like to have a hotel booked ahead of time, I worry I will be hot and get grumpy looking around, especially in an unfamiliar place, so we always do research and book our hotel or condo ahead of departure.

I will go look for the ticker link...gimme a sec

You will have no trouble finding a place to stay in any price range. Whether you want to hoof it around in the heat and....more likely at this time of year....rain will be the issue.

Where did you always stay when on Isla- and do you want similar hotel suggestions?

The last 10 times or so we stayed with Frank at the D'Gomar. Plaza Almendros and Francis Arlene were earlier stays, I loved watching the town come to life from the D'Gomar and the ferry boats. And yes please any suggestions would be great!
