We are going to be in Cancun April 20-28 and want to stop at Costco/SAM's on our way to the Mayan Palace from the airport. Where are they located. Anyone have a city map site for that area??

You should pick up Laura's CanDo maps of Cancun and the Riviera Maya. They are $6.95 each and are very detailed. I drove my rental car from the Mayan Palace to Cancun one afternoon and managed to find Walmart. You will be back-tracking from the airport into Cancun and then to back to the Mayan Palace. Walmart is about 15 minutes from the airport then it's 45 minutes to the MP from there. I will let you know a link to order the maps. They are terrific and I didn't go anywhere without mine.

Thanks Merk for the info on WalMart and Sam's. I HAVE ordered all of the Can-Do maps and awaiting them with baited breath...LOL. I get lost in a phone booth so glad to hear they are very helpful.
Thanks again, Barb |

We'll be at the Mayan Palace on 4/4. All of the posts on this message board have been very helpful! Four of us are staying in a two bedroom condo unit and plan to do some cooking since we have a kitchen. I was wondering if it was really worth it to go to Costco/Walmart for food and drink? Is the selection/price much better than one of the local stores? For that matter, is there a well stocked grocery in the vicinity of Mayan Palace?

We have owned a condo in Playa del Carmen for 3 years now and go down about 6 times a year. We have never felt the need to go to Cancun to grocery shop. San Francisco on 30th Ave has always had everything we needed. Now there is a brand-new, huge Chedraui on the highway just south of Benito Juarez. It's sort of a Mexican Super Walmart. Between the two, you should be quite well supplied.
They both have a selection of beer and other alcohol, but if you want a wider selection you can stop at Covi out on corner of the highway and Constituyentes |

Thanks JAH! Since you go down there so often, I was wondering if there are specific items that you bring from home because they are either hard to find or much more expensive in Mexico? For instance, I read that we could bring up to 3 liters of alcohol each so we were going to bring down some California wine. I wasn't sure if there were other types of alcohol that were cheaper at home (California). I was also thinking that stuff like insect repellent and sun lotion would be cheaper at home. Any suggestions?
