Space Jump

Did I miss the mention of it in another thread or did nobody watch this today?

Initially, I thought it too much of a PR stunt to waste time watching. But, I got sucked right into it today!

The feelings that must have been going through him as he stood perched on that step!

and then to just step off!

He was complaining of his visor fogging up.
I remember the first time I soloed a jet. As I taxiied to number one, I noticed everything seemed sort of grey. Then my visor fogged over completely! I was sort of concerned...not that I couldn't see, but that I would get cleared for takeoff and would have to tell them I wasn't ready because the adrenaline was pumping so hard and my breahting was so rapid I fogged up my visor! And I was only going to fly a jet...not jump from 128,000 feet!

Anyway....tip of the hat to Felix!

I watched and was thinking the same thing about that step off. I did a tandem sky dive last winter and it was a thrill just stepping out at 10,000 feet. Can't imagine what 128,000 would feel like.

We had been talking about it on the Random Thoughts thread. That was some serious stuff. As I said over there, I think he is the Baddest Ass Mofo on the planet. Glad he got back to planet alive. The definition of Awesome.

Yep. I gave a yell, sweaty palms, the whole 9 yards.

Best comment I've seen so far about baumgartner's jump was that he had little risk of injury since his giant b@!!s would cushion his landing.

Did you notice how they cut away for a few seconds when he started to flat-spin? There's a reason they did that. I doubt that this award exists but if it does, I still nominate Felix for "The Order of the Baddest-Ass MoFo on the Planet".

If the award doesn't exist, we should create it.

It was pretty cool but posting on a PI political thread as an ultra conservative is almost as risky these days...

The BBC is doing a documentary (and I think maybe National Geographic also). He had 20 cams in his suit that they didn't share today. I can't wait. I felt like a kid again watching the old Apollo Program... except this time I was also watching football and drinking beer.

Would you rather go out hitting the earth at 500 mph or by getting kicked square in the nuts for three years straight?
