Tahini & Specialty spices

Does anyone know where I can buy Middle Eastern food items.. in particular I am looking for tahini as well as some spices such as sumac, cumin seeds, saffron, etc.

Also, what is the best selection of spices in town? Mega and Wal-mart are horrific.

DAC has a moderate selection - definitely tahini.
30th just north of Constituyentes

Also, Pacsadeli on Constituyentes around 85th
Pacsadeli has a large selection of spices - and saffron, for sure.
Most spices are in the larger containers.

DAC only had the giant Tahini last week when I was there. They said they would have smaller ones in this week.

Odd Groceries...

I have actually had a bit of luck finding random things here such as decent Cumin, Curry, Tahini, Saffron, special oils and random ingredients. It's totally a toss up as a lot of the more rare things are not always available here and they seem to come and go like the tourists. Sams Club (around the back corner near the freezer section) has a small speciality food section that sometimes has decent saffron and recently had tahini (I schlepped my Israel friends over to pick some up last month). Also - to my surprise, Soriana and Chedraui often times have more rare items than Wal Mart or Mega. The Chedraui in centro usually has a better selection - and the Soriana at Centro Maya may have what you're looking for too. Good luck - and if you're not a member and want to venture to Sams Club let me know.

If there is something special you cannot find, I would be glad to bring it when we come down Dec 1.

In a grocery store, we can find tahinis inside a fridge. Grocery stores usually stores fresh ready-made tahini and put it inside a cool area. If not, you can also find these in the “ethnic” section.
