I am travelling alone a lot and never even thought about something like this happening but I will make sure that the locks are closed on the door in the future (if there are any). I am sorry this happened to you and hope that you will be able to deal with it somehow (to say to 'get over it' would sound wrong in this case). Good luck. Andrea

i'm so sorry to hear this happened to you Tracielynn! your husband must be devastated.

THANK YOU for posting your experience. my wife and I will be at our 1st Riu resort in 8 weeks. because of this warning, i will be more careful with her and make sure she locks and "bars" the door whenever i leave the room without her.

the resort responded badly and it will affect them.

THANK YOU again Tracielynn!!!!

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you the nerve of that bas**rd! I hope you will be able to move one from this experience and become a stronger person - what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!

Its a real shame that hotels in playa do not take any action against criminal acts that occur within their premises. I recently had money stolen out of my room's safe, and the hotel also did not do anything about it. They tried to cover it up instead! Its a real problem down there, and officials should start setting laws against unlawful acts occurring inside the hotels. Considering tourism is Mexico's top source of income, how can they act so indifferent towards tourists when something bad happens to them???

I also loved playa and thought it was a safe place! This all changed after our recent experience. I will never go back there after this

Well, I just got a pm on TA from another couple who were at a Riu and his wife was also sexually assaulted by an employee who crept into the patio doors. The way they were treated by the Riu head office was exactly the same, including the wavior and "free trip" they sent them.. This couple has actually retained a lawyer and are thinking of going public about what happened. So very sad....

So sorry to hear this, but thank you for posting. Of course, you have to do what you are comfortable with, but I would suggest that you post this over and over on every forum you can to expose this to as many people as possible. You might save someone else from this atrocity and bring justice to this sicko. I would even be willing to help you share your story if you wanted.

I can only imagine how horrible and frustrating this was for you.

Almost 2 years is long enough. Was thinking about Jamaica, but just couldn't get away from my Mexico!! Going to The Royal in Cancun this time, but still a bit nervous and wondering what my nerves will be like just being back with so many memories. There are 8 of going, 4 couples. My husband has already said he's not letting me out of his site.
I hope its an excellent trip, but I will truly miss Playa.

I think it is an excellent idea to go back. I am sry that bad things happened and it makes my blood boil more than anyone knows. Good luck, face it head on, heal yourself, and have some fun.

I'm happy to hear that you will be going back to Mexico. Hopefully in time you might even be able to venture into Playa... even if its for a day trip. Have a wonderful vacation.

Sorry

So sorry that this happened to you but like others i'm glad to hear that you are not letting it stop you from going to Mexico. After being a police officer for the past 21 years and having been a sex crimes detective for the past 13 of that I can tell you that this is not uncommon, and it's very sad. Sex offenders walk in every position in life, from poorest to richest, believe me... i've arrested homeless and doctors for sexual deviant crimes and in my opinion, the majority of these people go undetected for years and years before they are caught/exposed and have many many victims. You defintely did the right thing and even if the company or the mexican govt does nothing about it, you are still doing the right thing by getting your story out there, even though I"m sure it's not an easy thing to openly share with everyone, you are a strong woman by doing so and I appreciate that for myself as well as for other women out there.. the more that know, the more that are aware. And I've often seen in my career that when one woman is strong enough to come forward, it will encourage others as well.
I hope the hotel takes this serious and fires this guy at least, unfortunately he will probably just move somewhere else to a new hotel with all new victims to terrorize, what a playground for him at resorts you know... If the mexican govt. would charge and convict him and make a law that he is not able to work at resorts again thatd be great...
Well.. prayers for you my dear and I hope and pray your next trip is fabulous and crime free!

Tracielynn, I have been away from PI for a long time, and I just read your shocking report. I am so very sorry for the way you were violated and then the treatment by all the people at the resort. I am glad you finally found the courage to post about it, and I hope you will have many future wonderful vacations in that beautiful location. My hope is that the man has been found and arrested so that he can do no more harm to anyone. (((HUGS)))
