You indicated you has an AI package but you decided to eat off the property? Was the house food ok?

The house food was fine ... Though everything seemed to taste a tad bit different then what im use to eating here in Boston. Not sure why ... by no means was the food bad...just threw my pallette off a bit.

I was actualy so impressed on how much of a variety they offered .... You could eat as healthy as you wanted or endulge. They offered food from all different culteres ... Italian... Japanese... Mexican ...etc.

If you hang around this site long enough you will be tempted to try some of the what I call 'Authentic' Mexican resteraunts. You will see many pictured in a lot of the trip reports. Im portuguese and from a primarliy portuguese area of Massachusetts. Many of the resteraunts that serve the best portuguese food are these little hard to find familly owned resteraunts.

I was on a quest to try some authentic Mexican i took the advice of many here and tried a couple of popular resteraunts while i was out on the town.

We stayed at the Quetzal in 2007.

The beach was beautiful, the jungle feel of the resort was great, the pool was lovely ... our problem was with the food and drinks. They even watered down the yogurt at breakfast

We left the resort every day and went into Playa to eat, the four of us thought the food was below mediocre. The alcohol was nonexistent, we drank all afternoon and evening and never had a buzz.
I hope it's improved by now.

Your pictures are beautiful!

I'm loving your trip report. We went here a few years ago and I want to go back so bad! I'm hoping next year. We thought the food was wonderful, but also wanted to try a few places downtown Playa so ate there, too. We saw monkeys almost every day. We had a room with a jungle view. LOVED that room! I sit here in out -9 Wisconsin temps, I am scowling that hubby denied me a Mexico trip this year. Sigh.....
